I just love starting the day on my backyard swing watching the chickens while I sip my tea as the rest of the family sleeps.

My hens are drinking LOTS of water in this heat. I assume that's why I'm seeing alot of watery poops.
Keyt, I have a couple of hens moulting, also. Don't know if it's the season, but I have feathers everywhere!

sweet! I hear the egg song! Maybe I will get more than one egg today. They were drinking up the vitamen/electrolyte fortified water yesterday. Hopefully they are feeling a burst of egg-making engergy! Maybe I should go cheer them on. :: grabs pom poms and runs to the coop ::

So far the heat hasn't really affected the egg production. I'm getting 12-19 eggs per day and have been selling them via a sign at the road and a sign on the refrigerator on the porch that reads Please Read

Freshly laid eggs and the eggs you purchase in the store are as different as night and day. The yolk will be much brighter and taste much richer. You will find that these eggs will be much harder to crack.
The birds that these eggs come from are fed only the best feeds and it is quite expensive. It costs over $2 per dozen for my birds to produce these high quality eggs. While I could buy eggs for less than a dollar a dozen from the grocery I feel the freshness of these eggs is worth the additional cost. Organic eggs from the store are $3 - $4 per dozen and they will be many days old.

While I raise the birds as a hobby it does get expensive. I gladly share these eggs with you and I hope you will share in the cost of feeding my flock.
Please contribute to my feed costs by leaving what you feel is a fair price.

I have been amazed that no one has left less than $2 and some have left as much as $5 per dozen.

I sure wish that I had kicked the birds out of the coop when I got up this morning. If I had they might have gotten to spend tonight in a clean environment but by 8am it was much too warm for this old man to shovel s...............

$5 per dozen? Those are some very appreciative customers you have there Opa!

I've had people I work with tell me that they want to buy eggs from me when my girls are laying regularly. right now I just give my extra's away to my close neighbors in half dozen packages. They do find it very convienient to pop over and ask for eggs if they run out. (it's a pain to have to run to the store as there is really nothing close by)

A few weeks ago, my neighbor was making deviled eggs for a party they were attending and his two young girls were eating them as fast as he could make them.

Needless to say he comes over and sheepishly asks if he could have some eggs....as if it were a big deal...pssssh.

He can has as many eggs as he wants.

Jamie, deviled eggs are why you need to have an additional flock of bantams. Bite size snacks.

:: chuckles :: I am already pushing it on my # of chickens but great idea for use of the banty eggs.
