:: chuckles :: I am already pushing it on my # of chickens but great idea for use of the banty eggs.

Bantams are necessary if you intend to advance to the next level in your chicken math skills.............fractions! My Vorwerks are 1/8th the size of my Wyandottes.

Welcome niser! It's so nice to have new people joining our group on a regular basis! Great folks here and lots of good info on chicken raising.

Keyt - Thanks for the chart! I put it someplace safe so I can always find it now. I am seeing lots of watery poops due to their larger than normal water consumption, but I have also been seeing very loose dark brown stools which apparently is normal and called Ceacal. They are all acting normal in every other way, so I guess I'm just being paranoid.

These yellow jackets are killing me! Got stung yesterday for the fourth time this week. I know where the nest is but can't find the opening, so spraying doesn't do any good. I went out last night after dark and looked but it's under the prickly pear cactus and I can't find the opening. I have to mow tomorrow and I just know they're going to swarm me. I'm not really so worried about myself but the nest is near the deck and the gate into the back yard and I'm afraid for the dogs, cats and chickens. Wish I had me a big blow torch!

I got another green egg today, a teeny tiny pullet egg. So cute!

The girls must like all of my cheering because they gave me 3 regular eggs and a bantam egg already today. Woot! I am debating letting them out of the run tonight about half hour to an hour before they normally pack it in for bed. :: bites nails ::

I dunno...maybe.

Yay for eggies! I really can't wait until my girls are old enough to lay, it will be such an eggsciting day!

I found someone local to take the chicks. Definitely felt really good about her too! She was absolutely gushing about her other hens, so I knew the babies would have a great home!

I was SO happy that finally Family Farm and Home had the stuff I wanted on sale like feed and egg cartons. Although I had a bit of an anger issue over the cartons lol.

I have worked retail a lot over the years. Every place I have worked or shopped the rule is generally if a sign is next to something, the store has to sell it that way. For example, there was a 4/$1 sign directly under the styrofoam cartons but not one near the cardboard ones. I didn't see the ads so I assumed that was correct so I counted out 60 and got the feed that was on sale and went to check out. When she rang them up they were showing the regular price of .39. I said no, the sign says 4/$1. She got really upset with me and said "You obviously didn't read the ad!" and showed it to me. Her attitude is what got me at first, then I said the sign is right under these cartons. She then said "You must have looked at it wrong or something because they wouldn't put it under the ones not on sale!". GRRR. Despite not being able to walk well, I stormed to the back and got one of the regular workers there and showed her the sign. She moved it and said no the cardboard ones are the only ones on sale. She then showed me the numbers on the sign printed so small I couldn't read it. I laughed and said are you kidding me? I see plenty of elderly come in here and I know they wouldn't know how to read that! She didn't say anything, she just counted out 40, handed them to me and walked off. Before I even got to the checkout, she had called the cashier and I got more attitude when I got there.

I like FFH, I've never had a problem with anyone there. The only thing I don't like about them is when a bag of feed (or pellet stove pellets because we buy those there too) is broken, you only get 10% off no matter how much of the contents is lost, whereas at TLC you can get up to half off!

People have been giving me egg cartons since a year before I even got my chickens and I have them stored EVERYWHERE. I probably have close to 300 by now and I'm only getting 1 or 2 eggs a day!

another place to check is the recycling centers- mom get alot of hers from there (giant bags of opened & stacked egg cartons!!!) Last I knew she still got them for........free!!! Plus everyone who buys eating eggs from her brings the cartons back as well.
