I got my diatomaceous earth finally, in Hemlock for $28.something a 40# bag,, worth it cause I didn't have to drive no 200 miles for it.

An exciting thing happened today, I saw Shug, my 20 week old Delaware lay her first egg!! I also found a pullet egg on the dropping board that had to have come from one of my New Hampshires, also 20 weeks old. My first pullet eggs for the year.

Finally! The young ones are starting to lay!

I sooooo need to clean the coop and this weather is really cramping this effort. Today I found my little Blueberry (bantam cochin) rolling, litterally, around in the poop tray.

Maybe she was attracted by the mixture of DE, Sweet PDZ, and shavings but I don't care, totally unacceptable. I am embarrassed by my coop right now. Hopefully I can get it cleand when I let the girls out in the morning.

I have been getting a pullet egg every other day, and found a rubber one the other night, one of my RIR's is laying them I have seen her..

Can't wait for the other gals to kick it into gear. Every time I buy eggs at the market now I complain..LOL

I even had to put some of the girls in the coop at night because the older ones would shove them back out but they are all good now. It did take a couple of days but it has settled down now. I just had to keep telling myself..."ok...there's no blood....it's ok" I just made sure that the bantams had access to food but they held their own and intergated pretty well. (I also distracted the flock with LOTS of yummy treats for a couple of days too)

thanks HH, thats my neighbors farm to the west of me.
I spilled a bit of the DE trying to get it into 3 different lidded containers, so swept up the spilt stuff and shook it around in the nest boxes.
My Jerseys are 8 weeks old now, the Chante's are 16 weeks and the others are 12 weeks...all growing up.

A while ago we took one of our silkies out to our friend's place, the one who takes our roosters and has a small flock himself. She was being loud and noisy all day long, no way the neighbors would tolerate more than a couple days of it, and she was being a terrible bully to all the other chickens, to the point of scaring them out of the coop and making them lay eggs in the yard.
Anyhow, he would see her daily, but she didn't really mesh with the others, then for a while he didn't see her at all. He figured maybe a critter got her, looked for her and saw no sign of her anywhere. Well today he got up went to check on all the chickens and saw her clucking around the barn. With 9 little fuzzy peepers following her.

He called BF all excited about having babies!

We went out to see them, I managed to catch 6 up, they can't be more than a day old as most still have their egg tooth. Itty bitty little things, peeping loudly, following momma and avoiding the goats and other chickens. Not sure what mix they are, she's the only silkie out there, there's a Brahma and I think some Australorps, but they are all a black/charcoal color right now. It'll be interesting to see what they grow up to be.

cleaned the garage yesterday and swept it look so nice. Well we ran out for a cone and when we got back the girls had christened the garage floor while we were gone. "You've got to be kidding" my DH exclaims.

The roos stayed out in that storm last night. Crazy! but I guess the old hens won't let them in the coop.
I had to get after the DD today. I went to check on all the birds around dinner time and the meaties were out of water. I was fuming.

Glad opa is feeling better. Hope you all have a great day Sunday.
