Well, I can say it's been a very sad but very necessary week. 4 swedish ducks were probably a few people's good dinner and a hen is being spoiled by one of the cutest little girls (besides my own) that I have ever met! Now to tackle getting rid of some roosters.

One more try here. I have a gorgeous BSL and BLRW and a RIR mix. Two of them were contributors to putting out some absolutely beautiful babies!

I'll take just about anything in trade as long as it's not a male animal

Got feed your animals don't like? Mine eat anything. Got wood your not using? We desperately need it!!

Ok, last time I'll post it here. They're final day here is Monday.

We had fun seeing Keyt again and visiting. Her pig is soooo cute! But it's good to be home. Finally. After leaving Keyt's I had to go pick up my 1/4 of grass fed beef. The hens are all in their house-chicken cage. They've gone through a 10 oz cage cup of gamebird crumbles already. They feel like they'll burst! I cannot believe how heavy this BR hen is. I'm so used to my Isas. They hardly weigh anything at all. Oh and the BR has spurs! Keyt thinks she's probably an older bird and I agree. She just seems "seasoned". I made sure to take a before pic of her nakedness. On the way home we had to stop at the pet store and buy the cage cup since I didn't have one big enough. Matilda just had to take the black cochin in with her! She rode home from the pet store with her in her lap. She had to fall asleep tonight watching "her chickens." We got home so late I had to run right out and lock up the birds and was pleasantly surprised to find the 3rd egg of the day. They're finally getting back up to speed. Their ears must have been ringing when I was talking about eating them. Don't tell them I wasn't serious. I'm off to buy a hen apron, Matilda has decided her naked hen needs a dress. Oh and I better not forget the cochins need diapers.

Thanks for the nice words about the kids Keyt. They're characters!

Well, I finally have the chicken coop liveable. I just have trim work to do and caulking on the outside to keep any water out. So I put the chickens in it last night. I got the easy ones in first, and they were not that happy about it. Finally they started to settle down when I got them all from the first coop in. My pretty leghorn, I swear she gave me the stink eye. The big window that I put in for them, they don't know what to make of it! They'll get it.

How many days should I leave them in the run underneath and not let them out till they realise this is home?

Good morning everyone. Drinking a fresh hot cup of Paula Deen's Savanah Seduction. The best coffee I've ever had. I'm a flavored creamer person, except in this coffee. It's just too good to adulterate it with anything. Still have half a pot if anyone would like some.

Today I'm meeting my sister in Millington at my daughter's house then she and I and her son and his two kids and my three dogs and two FBCM roosters are heading over to Grand Rapids where the roosters will get dropped off. The rest of us will continue to Holland to a pig roast at my brother's house to celebrate his son-in-law's birthday and a combination house warming. That's a five hour one way drive for me, stay at my brother's for a few hours then turn around and head back to Millington to drop my sister and her son and kids off, stay overnight at my daughter's house (even though they are up north for the weekend) and continue my drive home tomorrow morning. Whew. The good thing is I have found a home for two of my roosters. I agonized over which two should go. Joe is my BR roo who is such a gentleman to his girls. Worf is his EE underling roo who follows him around like an obnoxious little brother. Then I have the two French Black Copper Marans roos. I really wanted to keep one of them to breed with my FBCM hens as I want to keep that specific breed, but they are intimidating Joe and Worf and I can't bear to part with Joe at this point. So....since the two Black Copper brothers get along so well and Joe and Worf get along, it doesn't make sense to try to split up a pair that is working and possibly have problems later. I have been going out every morning and putting the Black Coppers in a separate run so Joe and Worf can come out. It will be nice not to have to do that anymore and there will be peace and harmony in the coop finally. It's funny the Black Coppers are going full circle back to where they came from. I got them from a guy in Ada and now they are going back to live in Galesburg which is kind of in the same area. Joe will be so happy.

Congratulations to everyone with their rooster removal programs. A few years ago I had seven Welsummer roosters and only wanted to keep one. Even though I was raised knowing that each animal serves a purpose and often that purpose is to provide us with meat, and the fact that I'm an avid hunter, deciding which of these beautiful birds would face the knife was a difficult task. Ending the life of anything, even when necessary, is something that should be aproached with respect and reverence.

I currently have two Welsummer cockerels and I only intend to keep one. My current Welsummer rooster is in prime condition but as we all know that could change overnight and then I would be faced with trying to find an acceptable replacement, hince the need to have a backup bird. Before I could even contemplate what to do with the extra and individual in Oklahoma contanted me about purchasing one. I have been fortunate in having some birds that are acceptional if body type and color. I was concerned about trying to ship a bird that far, especially when considering the cost and the potential for heat injury. When I informed him that I would be in southwest Missouri around the first of October he indicated that he would be more than willing to make the 400 mile round trip from the Oklahoma City area to get one of my roosters. I talked with him in depth about his plans to build a large flock of dark egg layers and was very impressed with his ideas from improving his flock. I've decided that anyone willing to make that kind of commitment to raising quality Welsummers needs a free bird.

Yup I'm learning all about roo removal, I had 2 young blue roos just learning to crow, slam a young not quite mature hen to the ground to breed her. The first time I was there to break it up, second time - I was not so lucky the darn roo scalped her! found the poor girl cowering by her sister and bleeding. I ALMOST shot him on the spot but did not trust my aim when angry. They are going to auction today and my poor girl is in ICU

gOOD mORNING EVERYONE-

Well, my frizzle has decided to be unbroody for a few days, anyhow...my two silkies are still in trance-like states. All the mallards have left now- except for the one with the broken wing that was rescued off a main road and one that has decided to be her friend.

The three geese are doing well. My yard, not so much...goose feathers and goose poop everywhere.

The rabbits are doing well. I have been doing introductions through an x-pen, hoping for a bunny bonding. Henry goose picked the holland lop up by his ear and took off with him- I had to chase him, lol.

I still have the crippled black Indie duck,,,,not sure how much longer she will be fine and "not suffering"- but for now, she is living a good life. I dont expect that to be the case once snow falls.

I STILL have the banty Turken cockerel and the little black banty female sidekick that I got from Keyt. I need to find somewhere for the turken to go- Stu hah hahaha...Sam, my daughter Kayla said that she named him STEW not Stu- so I originally typed it wrong- doesnt have any meat on him to be worth being butchered. He is smallllll.

I am so STIFF this morning- if this is a hint on how bad my arthritis is going to be this winter, I am in serious trouble. Cant hardly move my left arm and my neck is all screwed up. Think I will be having ibuprofen for breakfast.

It only takes a day or so to get behind! Wow!

Caught up this morning and that just plain sucks fog the unfair treatment of the older guy in Milford! Government, too much stinking government. I will also send an email just because it's the right thing to do.

I was so suppose to go to a horse show today and show but just didn't have my heart in the right place for some reason. Decided to stay home and gut a couple of closets and the pantry. What the heck is wrong with me? Cleaning instead of a show! These projects have been bugging me for awhile and I just want it organized! My mom said she would come help too.

The lawn finally got mowed so I can sit out and enjoy it. We have 3 families that use the farm lawn mower and d-b-I-l ran over something large enough to tear the front caster off the deck and muck up one of the blades!!! ugh but it finally got fixed and dh mowed last night.

Summer is coming to a close though cause the redneck pool I put up in the drive is coming down today. But I'm good with that I'm almost ready for fall. Harvest time on the farm is my favorite. Nothing like sweatshirts And the smell of corn in the dryer. Then next the holidays and a month after that Mexico for 3 weeks. Yup so fall here I come. The rest of you don't have to follow but I love it!!!
