I'm seriously slacking in my BYC posting!!! I've been working some more on my new coop...will have to get ya'll some photos. Still have the silkie chicks available if anyone's interested. I don't know where my post went or if anyone replied but does anyone in the lansing area know of anywhere that sells gamefowl tie cords? I'd like to try one with my Oshamo as he is just under 2ft tall now and needs to get out of the coop I have him in. I'll have to get a picture of him...he's soooooooo pretty!

I wouldn't open the foot unless you can see the core. You could use a hypodermic needle and see if you are able to draw off any fluid. I'd try soaking the foot in warm water/epsom salt solution for 10 0r 15 minutes. If you do puncture the skin with either a needle or a scalp be sure to treat the area with an antibiotic salve.
thanks Opa and Kris. I soaked it tonight w/epsom salt could see no injury on the foot but the pad is definitely swollen, could he have gotten stung by a bee or something? will soak again tomorrow pm after they go in is easiest.it really isn't even red just puffed up.
