[Hillbilly Hen]

I put a timer on my lights just for the morning so there won't be eggs on the dropping board. I don't heat the coops either but I do have the "cookie tin" heated waterers. I ordered a couple of those Thermo Cubes for the water heaters but they are on back order. Does anyone here use the thermo cubes?

What's a thermo cube??? Is that a Delaware or sussex?? Purty!

My timer light goes on at 5:45 and usually if I go out to the coop by 6:30-7:00 I usually have 2 eggs in the nesting boxes. It was you I believe that suggested this to me for I had the same problem of eggs being dropped from the roost. I think my husband has the timer set to go off at 8:00. I don't intend to sell alot of eggs at this point in my hobby but I do want to keep a steady flow since I supply a few family memebers with them and I'm still recruiting some potiental buyers.

Also, I'd like to know what a thermo cube is also.

A thermo cube is a little device that you plug into the outlet, then plug whatever you want to run into it. Is is thermostatically controlled to turn on and off at certain temperatures (I think there are 2 different ones temp wise). So if you have a waterer that you want to heat, it only comes on when the air is below a certain temp. Saves $$ and also does not overheat the water.

Anybody in Northern MI looking for some laying hens? I saw this on Craigslist, he is giving away 10-20 one year old hens but they have to be gone today - he is butchering them tonight if not picked up

I so wish he was closer as I'd love to get some from him to replace the girls I just lost!

Hope someone can give at least a few of them a good home!

She is a Delaware and the babies are one Delaware and one Delawegger [Dell X EE].
I bought the Thermo Cubes at Menards when they had them on sale for 7 dollars a couple of weeks ago. They did not have any in stock so I ordered them.
The lights I have in my coop do not put out a lot of light. One of them is a cheap flourescent grow light that I got from Wally World a few years ago that is supposed to be for plants. Doesn't make the plants grow but just makes them look better due to the color of the bulb.

When I was at Fowl Fest I purchased a waterer that works like that for the winter. I'll have to read up on it more. Was told they were very popular, that he always sells out fast and that they work great. I'll let everyone know when the snow starts to fly!!

So my dog needs to go into surgery tomorrow. To make a long story short, on Sunday one of my parent's dogs instigated a fight, and as I was picking up Ally to get her out of the fight, the other dog latched onto her. The bite wounds were to her anus and vulva. Yesterday there was a swelling at one of the wound sites, this morning it was the size of a marble, and by the time I got her to the vet earlier this afternoon, it was golfball sized with a track of infection heading towards her abdomen. She has to get the abscess cleaned out and a drainage tube installed. I definitely asked the vet today for antibiotics painkillers, since she was in so much pain (shaking, whining, and no appetite. When a beagle doesn't want to eat her breakfast, something is definitely wrong!). But she is an old dog, so not only does the infection have a high chance of going septic, just the anesthesia is a risk.

At least she is resting comfortably now that the painkillers have kicked in. But I am so worried about my little girl
