I have a couple of Heritage Barred Rocks that are 30 weeks old. They don't even look like they are anywhere ready to lay.

oh Lord don't say that. If mine ain't laying by deer season they'll go to the butcher and I'd hate to do that.

1 Sebright hen, 1 D'uccle hen, 1 dutch bantam hen, 2 old english bantam hens and 1 old english bantam rooster.
All 6 months old, just starting to lay. A lady near Bellafontaine, OH. has them.
That is not far from Indianapolis where the Crossroads Poultry show is next weekend. Let me know if anyone is interested and I can put you in touch.

Nova, I'm more the Doctor Who/Catherine Tate type, but if I can find a dvd set I'll check that show out.

That said, it was beautiful today. After work, I took DH and DD to Anderson & Girls in Stanton to look at the animals, get apples, and an ice cream. Took some good photos of all the animals, too. Here's one of a big, fluffy rooster and his friend the goat who thought the shed was mighty tasty.

Oh, you can catch the buckets, I mean " THE BUUUQUEEEETS" on gvsu every saturday night at 9. I used to love watching "are you being served?" That was great also. DR WHO!! I remember as a kid, my dad, He was a total Who addict! I like the new ones better. More my speed.

ChicwannaB, my neighbor had some girls from last year that didn't start laying till this spring past, because when it was time for them to start, it was already coming into the wintering months. He didn't have them with a light, sooo... Maybe that's it? I am hoping I do not have that problem. I was told my Wyandottes should start laying this month, but they are only just starting to get their combs and wattles. My Leggern, she's getting close. Her comb is red and starting to fall over and Mr. Fluffers is starting to court all 4 of those girls. YEAH! I hope I will have more eggs soon.

SO, what kinda chickens do I need to get blue and greens? I know an olive egger.. But is that pretty common for EE's? or do I need to find and get color gene specific hens that you "KNOW" or the person your getting from know's will lay those colors? I really want to freek my kid out. He doesn't believe that they will come that color. He knows browns, tans, pinks, and whites.. But he doesn't believe the other colors. I think he must have Missouri blood in him. LOL

Hello all-

Ive been gone from the boards for a bit. I hope everyone is doing well.
I got my livingroom painted and decorated, just need some carpet- one day.
The chickens are pretty much ready for winter- I need to pick up some feed today, I have to drive out to TSC though, because my local feed store is out.
My rooster is crowing and crowing now. He sounded like a ghost up until this week- one syllabal crows which were not recognizable from any halloween decorations. However, now you can tell he is a rooster. I do believe I wont have to send him to my brother in laws until Spring, though. The neighbors windows are closed and soon everyone will be closed up until April. It all depends on the volume.
He has been busy with the ladies- if it wasnt about to be snow-covered out there, I would possibly have some showgirl wanna-bes.

Today I am taking my grandson to Rockwood to the petting farm and corn maze. We will see if its fun to lose Gramma in the corn. haha.

Oh- almost forgot- the doctor told me if I dont make some drastic changes, I am going to die of a heart attack within five years. I must lower my cholesterol and triglycerides. So, if anyone knows of any good websites that give good rabbit food recipies, I must change our diets here.

Your best chance for getting blue eggs for sure is to buy Aracauna or Ameracauna from a breeder. Stacykins, on this thread, breeds Aracauna so you could start there.
