My DH & DS always pass up the does till the end of the season. They too try for that trophy buck!! They saw a total of 8 yesterday but nothing in close range. At this moment we just noticed 5 at the end of our back property that are grazing in an cultivated corn field. DS has ants in his pants and his trigger finger is starting to quiver...lol.

My friend Scotty got an 8 point a few days ago on the last day of bow season... I am waiting for the neighbor to get one... I'd like just a pound or 2 from him so I can make chili!

I got the silkies in their own coop. I got home from work today and poor Leila was under the VW hiding... I coxed her out with some fresh warm corn and as soon as Oscar saw his chance... Rotten sucker. She then buried herself in the prickers, hiding her head so he couldn't get it at it anymore. She's now safe, and so is Roger, since Oscar has taken to attacking him also, since Roger doesn't see him coming. He tried to get the upper hand on Mr Fluffers today too! My Drag queen roo kicked his butt and Oscar ran like the devil was chasing him. He then tried to mount Miss Legs and she about took his little head off! THAT was funny to see. I was on the verge of killing him today, but now that my little girl is safe from him and the other chickens beat the crap out of his frisky butt, he can live another day. For now.

I posted quite a few seramas (smooth and silkied) up for auction. Check them out. These are a few that are up for sale.

Nova,
There might be weeks this Winter where the chicken are cooped up for a few days at a time while the snow flies and winds blow. Do you have enough coops to separate the chickens into safe groups so no hen gets scalped and no rooster gets killed by another rooster while they are confined?
Glad your Silkies are safe.

Theron - beautiful birds. I hope they get wonderful homes.

Welcome fuzzybutt! To post a picture click on Uploads (in the blue ribbon at the top of the screen, just under BackYardChickens Forum). You will get a screen that says Upload Image and a Browse button. Click the Browse button which will open a box showing all of the links on your PC. Assuming you keep your pictures on your PC rather than on a website like Picasa or Photobucket, click on the file that holds your pictures. Double click on the picture you want to post and it will show up in the Browse box something like this: C:\\Users\\Judy\\Pictures\\2011-07-09\\007.jpg. Click Submit (or you can check the resize box and then click Submit and the picture will be a little smaller). You will see a screen that says Result and Image Uploaded Successfully and Image Thumbnail Created Successfully. Below that will be Thumb: with a URL and Image: with an
URL]. Click once on the link in the Image box and press the Ctrl and C (= copy) buttons on your keypad to copy the link. Go to the place where you are posting your message and put your cursor where you want the picture to be, then depress Ctrl and V (= paste) keys on your keyboard. You will see the picture link pasted there. Now click the Preview button in the lower left of your screen and you will see what your post and the picture will look like before you actually Submit it. It sounds hard, but it's really not. Good luck.

Where we hunt is so over run with does, that is what we prefe to shoot. My daughter lucked out and got a huge 8 point using bow season. My husband saw a small 8 point and passd it up. 6 & 8 points are pretty big for where we hunt. The 10 points and bigger are there, but they come out at night. That's how they got so big. They are smart and only come out at night.. But there are does and fawns EVERYWHERE.

Theron....good luck on with the auction. I checked out your website for the first time and it's very nice....

. Looks & sounds like you have a nice set up & selection. I'd like to get a few knew chicks in the spring and will definitely look you up. You're not that far of a drive from me. I think between you & Chickendales I'll get what I want.

AngelaB..... nothing wrong with taking a doe. My DH also hunts airport property with a couple of guys and they are ordered to take the does. It's one way to keep the heard down. Deer & airplanes don't mix well. My DS (12) sat for 11 1/2 hrs and nothing came into range. Hopefully this weekend will be better. If not, that's OK too, he already got during bow season.

My flock has infection too, possibly coryzoa or bronchitis. Snuffy noses, wheezy. Happy and alert though, but i feed mine showbird supplement, which has a lot of vitamins. No swelling of the face, though, Came from the Ravenna auction. Bought a few hens and have run the gamut already in disease parisites pests. Mine are pets however, and i am searching for a way to get them through the symptoms. What i don't understand is that when a human gets over a cold they might harbor stuff to pass it on to someone who's never been exposed, but they carry immunity. Why wouldn't chickens be the same way? Wouldn't the survivors be stronger for it? Or is it just that we haven't found the medicine yet to get them to this point? And btw, is there a limit on posted pics?

I have had no pictures posted in MONTHS due to the fact that something is messed up on my image page. No past photos are there and there is no way to bring up "in file" or "in gallery". I wrote to BYC and asked about it and they said they didn't know what was wrong. I also don't get the "browse". Regardless...I followed the directions that Chickmate just posted and was able to bring up a picture of my boy "Maximo". ....alias "Fat Boy".
