Nova- I agree with all the others and would say he is past "turning into" a boy, and is now "a man". He is really handsome though!

Nova.......He's a beautiful Roo and Your ducks are cute too. They'll like their new home, looks like you've done a good job working on it!!

Whew! Finally done reading everything.

Taprock- that's just insane. Glad you're all alright.
Nova- 'tis a roo. Looks just like my Red and he's a great flock protector. My EE roo Newton, however, is a wuss. We have watched him many times flap the girls out of his way or jump over them to escape any perceived danger.

No time with the chickens today. I really dislike going to work in the dark and returning in the dark. My son took care of them, though, and it looks like a few were up to laying today. Yay.

I plan to head out there in a bit to make sure all is well for bedtime.
I did get another green egg today. It wasn't striped this time. Nope, this time it has 2 great big quarter sized dots on it.

Just don't tell them your secret

My older cousin used to keep a pet bunny on a leash for the same reason!

He said no girl could resist the fuzzy bunny! It was true, i saw it with my own eyes! I think chickens are a win-win for both sexes: The girl gets the guy who likes animals; The guy gets the girl who likes to cook! Where can you go wrong?

Cannibalism?

That happened to me this summer. I never knew what it was.

Hmmm. Did you find any egg fragments at least? That would be horrible if it was cannibalism. You'd never be able to trust her. I could see it though; my girls are gentle with the eggs, but if it breaks.... She would've just though oh, golden goodies!

My broody attacked the baby duck she hatched out.
Also, can other hens get to your broody? If your egg hatched another hen/hens may have made dinner of the chick.

No egg fragments or any sign of egg or chick.

I think I am going to put the hen in my storage area and give her three or four days to hopefully decide that she does not want to be broody.

Yes, but I haven't seen them even go near the broody hen. It is possible though. Next time I will put any broody hen in the "Nella Brooder". I was just worried about re-intergrating the hen back in with the flock since the brooder is in the bigger coop.
