Taprock....Nice bunch of assorted eggs there!! Let me know how the Cuckoo Maran handles the winter weather...remember I read that they weren't suppose to be cold hardy birds? I had to question that because it seems like a lot of people have them and they live in the Northern states. They must be fairly adaptable to climates. I think the eggs are so cool!!

Can't stay away from them, huh?

I have some that are like that too, and they will only come when I am sitting down, and in a while, my lap has prints allover it.

Well I pre-ordered a couple of EE's from a local farm. I should have them in February.

I wish I could get my goofy hens to use the nesting boxes! They keep laying on the floor.

I brought home a couple of extra cardboard boxes from the store today. Left the one flap on the narrow end and set in the coop filled with straw. The buff Chante and barred rock immediately hopped up and checked it out. When they get it all goopy it will be shreadded and thrown in the composter.

A client of mine had a hen that refused to lay up in the nesting boxes. She took an old milk crate and did the same....placed it on the floor of the coop. Worked great, eggs were always in the clean crate and not on the dirty floor.

I had a flock of such funny helpers today. Had to dig a shallow drain ditch (for washing maching water run-off) from the corner of the house to an angel over by the coop door, and then angle toward the east fence line, to avoid the septic drain field. They got right in and helped!!
