62 eggs in a week and a day.

62!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if it made the difference but we started putting grit IN their food instead of giving it to them now and then. I don't care, it seems to have worked. Well, I'm sure the warmer weather helped too but we've been picking up for a little while!! I'm so happy!!

Now to sell those eggs when our regular customers stopped coming because the production had slowed down!

Thats great, Keyt!

Enjoy- all the critters seem to think its Spring..(shhh..don't tell them Winter is really arriving next weekend)..I even got four eggs today

I hear you Mom. I have arthritis, fibromyalgia and scleroderma and each one is painful by itself. Put them all together and it really kicks your butt. You are supposed to keep active as much as possible, but the pain does make it difficult. I've tried all the big name drugs and they work for a month or two and then my body gets used to them and I'm back to square one. Everytime I start feeling sorry for myself I see someone who has much bigger problems than me, and I thank God for the mobility I do have. I hope you keep the exercise up and it gets easier, you'll feel so much better in the long run.

Definitely grateful that I am able to work, and move around, and do what I do. No doubt that there are so many worse off than me... sure do hate that I feel like I walked on my neck though.

I DO think the doc is going to have to do something, soon, though- because work is starting to hurt more and more at the end of the day. Definitely not like it was when I started this job.
OR MAYBE....

I need a full-time masseuse.

Hello bianca and welcome to this great group!

When I got home today and opened the run for them to come out and free-range for a few hours, Mama came running out with them. Back off her eggs again. I went out later to clean and change the water and she was back in the nest.

Sheesh, will I have babies or not? So, I put the dog crate up on a bale of straw by the front window so it's off the floor and daylight shines in the side window of the crate. I put the eggs in a wooden nestbox in the back of the crate so it's nice and cozy and showed it to Mama. She wasn't going to go in until she saw the eggs and then snuggled down on top of them. I'll let her out twice a day to eat, drink and poop and we'll see what happens.

I have a question about the chicks, if the eggs do hatch. Is there a possibilty that they could be compromised, like weak or crippled due to her time off the nest, or would the eggs just not hatch?

I'm only getting 4 eggs a day now, down from 12-13. I have turned off the light that came on for a couple of hours in the morning as it doesn't seem to be helping any. I'll let them rest up for the winter. A couple of the EE's are moulting which explains why I've only gotten a few EE eggs this last week. Can't wait for spring!!

Mom, you should see a rheumatologist to have your fibro diagnosed. By the time I retired three years ago I could barely drag myself in to the office every day. If you do have fibro a massage can be pretty painful, unless you get a good masseuse who knows what she's doing. I can barely stand a massage unless she's very careful.

welcome bianca!

you live by my mom!

thanks for all the great links everyone, and THANK YOU for the native's link Raz, my plan is to do mainly natives and have a few exotics my aunt wants me to go with her this spring to a group called "wild ones" that studies natives. I'm still learning about them.

M Sue, great backsplash!!!

We saw an eagle for the second day in a row today! He was only an hour down the road, so pretty! Will have to watch the chickens more careful though!

Beautiful full moon tonight. My hubby and son were out calling coyotes, trying to get some close enough to shoot. No luck.

I spent some time this afternoon cleaning the coop and adding new pine shavings. Everyone went out to free range but no one really wanted to stay out very long. While I was out I saw Boo my bantam Salmon Faverolle head into a nest box. She never pulled in her tail so I wondered what was going on. Next I hear this angry almost a purr sound. It turns out Ruby my Partridge Rock is already in the nest box. No one was going to give so I took Boo out and put her in the next box over. Crazy girls fight over the same box when there are 7 other available.

So, who is ready for a few hours of no BYC? I don't know if I can do it... I like being able to just sit here and read threads while the kids play, or while they are still sleeping. Hehe. So, Tuesday I have decided that I am going to byc, I mean B&N to read odd ball farm and garden books. Lol while the kids play with the train. Lol
