WOW!! That relentless wind we had yesterday wiped out 200 feet of paddock fence.
WOW!! 200 feet of fencing wiped out?!? I was worried last night about the wind too, I was afraid that the wind will pull the plastic off the coop and freeze the birds. I thanked God that it did not happened. Wish I can come and help fix your fence. What kind of livestock do you have? I saw Hillbilly Hen's tree in person, and it was a huge stump whatever was left of it. Talk about the power of the storm!

I am not worried about the wind and the plastic... The ducks managed to put a hole in it trying to escape! Then the blighters discovered the fence I put up on the outside to keep the plastic from coming loose in the wind! Hahaha!

I almost forgot about your ducks, Nova.
When I build your coop, do you want the hot tub in the basement or out in the courtyard?

Tee.... This weekend I get to candle again.... Two different nests. That's 11 eggs.... 5 of which I know are growing at this point. So, when Leila hatches hers, the ones I just got will be 4 weeks, then depending on how many of the 6 that Aster was sitting on, but that Skeeter is on now, those are 2.5 weeks out.... Less actually.... Well then they will be 12-5 wk olds, 5-1 wk olds, and 6(Fingers crossed) newbies.... I am going to go broke on medicated chick feed! And now only 4 hens a layin!
I sure hope Fiametta lays soon... Her comb is turning red... She has not ventured outside yet, but she has access to it.

Your going to have your hands full. But they are fun to have around and so cute!
Speaking of laying, my girls gave me 13 today! They're having a banner week so far and I'm not sure why, but numbers are up. I hope it stays that way and gets better. I would love to have all 28 laying.

So during the chick talk with DH, we discussed ducks and goats as well. Our youngest DD wants the ducks, but DH is kind of 'I don't know' about them although he did say their eggs are excellent for baking. So since I tend to bake a lot there could be ducks in our future. As for goats, he wants them for milk (which is something that I would have to acclimate myself to). Of course, no matter what, the goats are in for sure.

I am hoping to have the ducks return to their previous owners. They are actively looking for a house that is zoned ag. They miss them. I will be happy about that. As cute as the ducks are, they just are quacking eating pooping machines! Lol. They are adorable tho. As for the hot tub, that will b for me.

I'm trying to get a permit to raise wild ducks for Fish & Game. Those web footed little buggers are cute as all get out.

That is not a sale.... Layer feed is 14.99, and a bag of pine is normally 4.99.... I want a REAL SALE! I want feed for 10 and pine for 3. Lol. But a dollar is a dollar.

Yeah, I was thinking that I pay $14 for Dumor feed and $4 something for pine shavings. Not much of a sale, but thanks for the heads up Raz. As Nova said, a buck is a buck.

I am bummed. I went to take care of the duck coop, feed Aster and give her vitamins, and she was even worse. I had to take her out of the brooder box just to be able to get food to her head. Had to give her water to drink from a dropper and she still couldn't get it all. She did stop attacking me though. BUT while she was out of the broody box, she decided she wanted to try and walk, she couldn't she totally spazzed out, tipped over the waterer, crapped diareaha, was upside down with her feet in the air flapping all around. OMG, it was horrible. And then she started screaching. Since I just had another hen, Skeeter, go broody, I put Asters eggs under her and put Aster down. She may have been a mean little you know what, but she was still a good layer, and I have 2 of her egg being incubated by the broodies... I didn't make the decision lightly. I took into account that she was sitting on eggs, but how would she be able to take care of the babies when they hatched if she was still suffering wry neck? SO, I hope I did make the right decision... My neighbor even took a look at her, and he could not believe that her head was upside down. Said he had never seen such a thing. Well, now he has.

Enjoy EE heaven Aster.

I'm so sorry Nova. You definitely did the right thing by not letting her suffer. That's part of being a responsible animal owner. Maybe Aster was mean because there was something wrong with her and she was in pain or didn't feel well.

Thanks Daron.
On a high note though.... RaZ is going to come to my house and build me a chickie coop in my garage for the soon to be 20 odd babies!

Really??

I'm whaaa?

Ha Ha! I totally believed you Nova! I was thinking that's quite a hike for RaZ, what a nice guy!

I repaired the coop (garage) window this afternoon.
I had to go get some materials to do the work: I wasn't exactly slow in getting the chore done; I wasn't really that speedy in doing the work. I guess you could say I was kind of half-fast.

I live in the doghouse (or is it a cathouse?). Every night I go to sleep with 2 dogs and 3 cats. It would be 3 dogs, but my old Samoyed can't jump up on the bed any longer.

I know what you mean Raz. I sleep with 3 dogs and 2 cats. When I had my Dogue de Bordeaux I had to get a king sized bed so I got a TempurPedic mattress (so comfortable!). Now that my Big O is gone and I have the three little dogs, we have this huge bed with tons of room for all of us.

Well, tomorrow is day 21 for Mama's eggs. I hope to see babies soon. I have a question since this is my first time ever hatching eggs. I have been making Mama come out to eat, drink and poop twice a day. Once the babies hatch, should I still take her off the nest to come out? Will the babies get too cold if she is off the nest for 10 minutes? How does she get a poop break without the babies being exposed to the cold? Help?
