Hi Guys,
It was so nice to get away for a few days.Had a beautiful weekend to be outside. Over 378 posts when I logged on....just skimmed them briefly.
My son's friend did great taking care of the chickens and said it was fun even though he didn't get to sleep in on the weekend. I think he made out like a bandit...He got a free haircut, got to keep the eggs, plus I gave him a little cash. I also found a gal as a back up just in case he's not available next time we go away. She use to ride at the barn my DD does, drops in periodically(@ barn) and lives about 1 1/2 miles from me with her boyfriend. She said they use to have some noisy guineas and that they have a potbelly pig....a big one!

Taprock......I believe it was you that commented on the snow you & your DH had to drive in on Friday night. You can thank my 2 kids & 2 nephews for that one. When we arrived at my aunts on Friday they were disappointed that there was SO LITTLE SNOW and decided to do a snow dance that evening!! It worked and all was good for they got to sled, snowboard, and just play in it.

Love seeing all the pictures!

'Tis me again. Sorry about the interruption. I had to help Jo get dressed and didn't want to chance losing the part I ;had already entered. My computer is not working, slow & unpredictable, and frequently freezes. I've ordered a new one. This is nine years old & Dell salesman suggested time for a new one. I ordered a Tosheba. Anyone care? Didn' think so.
Gotta go now, so0 guess what! TBC...........

YAY for new computers! Hopefully you get it set up and running in no time- you will be amazed at the difference!

LOVE the poem, I might be able to remember all the words

Furnace is FIXED- I love heat...in the winter. Not so much in the summer,,,cant breathe in the weather over 78...no air..but right now 72 is much better than 54...

Good sunny afternoon to y'all!

Chickens are out enjoying the sun and babies are growing SO fast! I'm actually thinking I may have THREE roosters out of my four chicks. My luck. I'll be bringing them to Chickenstock. Anyone looking for a nice little rooster?

OH NO YOU DONT....my four need a home FIRST...wait in line, lol.

Yorkchick- Very nice story! I like it.

Mom- hope you get your furnace fixed without burning the house down!
You all know about the peacock that flew away, and got brought back? Well, on Saturday, I wanted to take a good look at him (Its a he for sure), so I grabbed him, and looked at his head, and saw that he had a running nose, a watery eye, and a puffy sinus. My first thought was ''OH NO, NOT MG!! PLEASE!
He has looked like what my turkey hen had last year that resulted destroying my flocks last fall. I had the vet come today, and he drew some blood out of the sick peacock, and 2 roos just to be sure-an Icelandic roo, and a Tomaru roo, and he will send the blood sample to the state lab to be tested. I will know the results within a week. I am so depressed that there may be a chance that I will have to kill everything, if the test results comes back positive for Mycoplasma G.
I just can't believe that its happening again, I had disinfected everything, and did not let anyone besides family members (I am the only one in the family that has poultry) pass the driveway, and this is happening. I am praying that is something else that is not serious, then I will not have to kill all of my baby chicks, and adult birds that I have. It hurts.
All the birds are confined in their pens until further notice. As soon the test results comes back, and if it is positive, then I will have to do that I have never done- kill everything on site, I do not wait to wait too long this time, just get it done and over with, but I pray that the test comes back negative.

All fixed now, thanks..and I sure hope your lab results come back negative. When are you expecting results?

Well, me and my group have been doing an early spring cleaning the last couple of days. Boy, am I tired, but we got the job done. Believe it or not while cleaning, my daughter found 2 pots that I had put away last year that had hyacinths in them and they were sprouting through the dirt. DH was so excited by that find. He is super eager for spring!

Unfortunately, we also had an incident with my roo Red today. My son took a break to see to the animals and I heard him shouting for me while out there. I sent my youngest daughter out and she came back in saying Red was bleeding really bad. My other roo Newton has been really going at him lately. I got out to the coop and there was blood everywhere. The waterer, the feeder, up the corner...just everywhere. I grabbed poor Red and he was bleeding so bad from his comb which is now missing it's top 2 points. I felt so bad for the boy. I took him inside and got him cleaned up as best I could and he's now in my doggy crate hospital wing. I don't know what I'm going to do about him and Newton or how I'm going to re-integrate him. Any advice would be really appreciated. Here's a pre-attack pic from summer of my Red.

I would pull the bad rooster out for a few days and put him in a cage- while he is caged, put your other rooster back in. Then you can reintroduce the bad guy...

haha...you guys are so dang funny. Good morning everyone!

Nova - I hope you never fix your auto correct....ever. It's what makes reading your posts such a joy.

what a beauty, that rooster Red is.
No, Mr. Fluffers will not be outdone by some jumped up rooster, even if that roo won 3rd place. But oh boy is Mr. Fudge pretty or what! I totally drool! If I had him along with Mr. Fluffers, I would have the envy of my neighbors and my friend Heidi who I got Mr. Fluffers from. Lol. Just don't tell CR that I really like his roo, and I am contemplating the 6 day drive to steal him. Do some cross country rustling. Lol.

Been up for a while but reading all the posts since I was last on took more than a few minutes. Feeling a little under the weather this morning. Last week David had a cold with a racking cough that now Granny, Hope, and I have succumbed to. Hopefully we will be able to get over it much quicker than David has.

Nova,
Mr. Fluffers is prettier. He is fluffier.

Opa- sorry to hear you are sick! I have a cold also and had to get up and take some medicine. It's a whopper of a cold.

I think the temperature fluxuation from sunny and 50 degrees to 19 degree lows over night has to be hard on the chickens also.
Maybe it makes them more likely to come down with respiratory illnesses.

there is peeping coming from my incubator. They are due to hatch on Saturday..I was going into lockdown on Thursday. So, I just pulled the incubator off the turner, and pulled out a couple dividing racks..and six eggs. One was SEEPING...gonna try and explode on me- but I got it.
I candled quickly, and there are THREE babies in their air cells. One peeped.

Feel better.Sam Good day for some homemade chicken soup.

Heya there! :) I've got a buncha babies right now and crossing my fingers for some more. It's been a hard spring so far with this jumping-all-over-the-place weather messing with my rabbits. Here's a picture (couple weeks old) of some babies...and momma glaring at me in the background...lol the one on the end is the runt of the litter and was a real fighter! It's almost caught up with it's siblings in size but started out 1/4 the size of the other 3 !

Are you suggesting that I use more recent popular vernacular? OK, I'll try.

There could be a ho riot if I had a lamb in class.

I really hope I am misreading this and you did not just refer to your female classmates as prostitutes.

I hope you feel better. My DH had that ratchety cold too. It seems to linger for a while with an icky cough. As soon as he got sick, I went on the defensive with tons of vitamins and water. So far...I've skated the whole thing.
