We, too, have had d'Uccles that could hold their own. My daughter's first d'Uccle hen basically owned the space under one of the bird feeders, eating everything the wild birds dropped and not letting anyone share in the bounty. She was the only bantam we had at the time and by far the boss of everyone. She was a loner, but only because she wouldn't let anyone else have any seeds. At night she'd go back to the coop, same as everyone else and roost right next to the big girls. She always had a spot on the top roost, too.

The other two she had weren't as bossy as Bella, another hen and a rooster she not-so-aptly named Thunder

, but they held their own in a flock of large fowl just fine.

My bantam hen although not a d'Uccles does the same. Doesn't miss out on feeding or treats. She's like greased lighting....grab & go, and always has a spot next to the big girls or Mr. Roo.

It's off to work I go. Long day and then out to the barn...I'll most likely be whipped by the time I get home. Everyone have a great day and don't you all be too chatty, you hear!

Had yesterday off of work and spent the day re-doing a bathroom. Didn't take time to get on the computer at all...jumped on this morning and 214 unread posts! Yikes!

FYI ~ I called about the Michigan Right to Farm session at MSU's ANR week. I was told that there were only 2 other people who had pre-registered (not required). I also asked if we should bring anything. I was told that it was going to be an open discussion question/answer format. So anyone who has questions about MRTFA or are experiencing issues with ordinances may want to attend. I am hoping to get some clear answers about our situation. Hope to see you all there!

Grandma - Bobbi was a beautiful bird. I've wondered what the girls are like in attitude. We bought two pair last spring but both girls died as chicks of an unknown illness. So we have the Bootsie Boys, Boots and Socks. They have a wonderful attitude except they love to escape. My son used one for 4-H Showmanship last year. The funny thing is sometimes they get into it with the large roos, but they work together like a tag team. I really hope to never separate them at this point. Them as youngsters and in the fall.

I received two more boxes of eggs today. The ladies were happy that they were in a tote today not thrown in the mail bag.

Good morning Michigan! I love seeing all the lovely pics of kids and chicks! I also love the fact I was actually able to walk to the coop this morning and even feed the birds myself without getting winded. I do believe I am going to live after all.

Woke up to a beautiful morning. Yes, it's cloudy but it's already 36 and supposed to hit 45!!

Then I check the rest of the forecast.

Hazardous weather...

* heavy snow will spread into the area late this afternoon and
this evening. Precipitation could begin as rain or a mix of
rain and snow near Lake Michigan and Lake Huron... but will
quickly change over to snow this evening. Lighter snow will
continue through the day Saturday.

* Snowfall amounts will range from 8 to 14 inches by Saturday
morning... with a few more inches of fluffy snow on Saturday.

* Increasing winds from the east and northeast this
afternoon... swinging around to the north and northwest by
Saturday morning. Wind gusts over 30 mph are possible... which
will result in blowing and drifting snow. Near blizzard
conditions are expected in exposed areas.

This is supposed to start around 5 pm.
