That's as good an answer as any I could think of. I wouldn't do anything other than watch it and see if it presents a problem.

Coffee is ready and I also am ready to faced the day, sort of.

Sam! Did you see that last night I nominated you to make us all those brooders for Chickenstock...well, really, for me, but one for me, one for all....

Good Morning. Didn't go to bed here until after 2. I hate working nights. Now I am running behind in morning chores here. Coffee is a necessity this a.m

My birds are either going to love me or be in total shock here in a few. I am going to let them out EARLY. Yup. I just got home from work. I am waiting till 7:30, just so its not to early for my mom (Mr Fluffers scares the poop out of her when he gets in the garage and crows while she is sleeping), and I am setting them free. I sure hope them silly ducks have already laid their eggs. I'd hate to find them all over their pen. LOL. I need them to fill an order for a lady at work who has never had duck eggs, and she's nearly 70, city girl. Just goes to show, you're never to old to try something new.

I went out last night to feed the garage littles some egg yolk, shut the light off in the garage. Roger, Leila, and the 4 littles were all crammed in the nest box. I wish I had my camera/phone on me. It was so cute. Note: the nest box is one of those small sterlite totes, 8-10 gallons I think, with a hole cut in the side and turned upside down. Poor Fiametta was sitting all on her lonesome up on the garage door rail. Dang silly chicken. Well anyway, I reached in there, got the Mohawk chick out, and tried to tempt it into thinking I am the greatest thing with hard boiled yolk. (Jace does not like egg yolk in hard boiled eggs, but he'll chow down the egg whites, leaving egg yolks). The little guy didn't want nothing to do with it at first, so I rubbed it against his beak a few times to get him a taste, and then he was like a little velociraptor and he took out that yolk like it was feeding day in the Dino pen. WOW. I think he likes me now. HEHE. I probably won't be able to catch him again for a long time.... He/she has a half walnut, half single comb kinda thing going on. I really hope its a boy. It'd be one messed up looking hen otherwise. Oh, but the feather color and pattern is so purty... Even if it does have feathers shooting straight up off the top of its head like a punk kid. LOL.

OK. well I am going to go head for the prison and release the inmates now. THEN its nappy time for me. (Nappy, as in NAP, not the ENGLAND version of diaper)

THEM D.F. STARLINGS HAVE MADE A NEST IN MY EAVES! Bun of a sitch, how the heck did they manage to get a hole in the screening! I am going to need a cherry picker just to get up there and get them out! Dang it all, if its not one thing its another...

well... i have to go to Tractor Supply.
I have been using these little bags of feed from the pet store, at $2.99 a pound.

My feed store told me they would have feed in on Friday- I can check there first...but I really think they are on the brink of shutting down. Because they havent had feed the last four times ? I have gone. Not that it is selling out, but that they are not keeping up the stock. So, I am torn between going where I KNOW it is, and supporting my local mom n pop shop....and waiting.

Now,
I have seventeen chicks in my kitchen- there should be no problem with self-control in the chick department. Really.

Its the ducklings...and I cant do ducks because I have chicks in the kitchen and more coming and morrreee coming. Besides, I am having surgery. Cant take care of ducklings while I am recovering...too much to keep clean. Besides, if I wanted ducklings...
sevenchickens has enough ducks to fufill my need...

yeah, maybe I better try my local mom n pop shop again..

I think I only made it back six pages before I gave up and started scanning to get back to here. You all were chatty last night. We went out for fish dinner and drinks with some friends. Good times. I'll try to remember everything I was thinking as I was reading....

On mixing birds, we mix all ages without issue, BUT ours are truly free range. In an enclosed space it probably won't work out so well because that survival competition kicks in and you end up with more fights, more accidents, etc.

On compost, I'm more like RaZ in that I don't follow the conventional rules. A lot of ours gets turned in immediately. The thing is raw material isn't what burns plants, an overabundance of it is what burns them. Spread it out, mix it in. Nova, I wouldn't get rid of your rabbit and duck stuff. Mix it all together with your chicken stuff, the materials you rake up around your yard, shredded paper if you need more carbon. It's all great nutrition for your garden, why waste it?

I didn't see that until I went back and found it. I would be very happy to do that for everyone.
I think am suddenly having one of those old rooster attacks. What was it we were talking about?

When I clean the coop today everything is going to get dumped in the garden. I agree with Olive, as long as it is worked into the garden soil thoroughly, it will decompose fine and won't burn your plants.
