true enough. I only used this combo bacause this is the same % of permethrin that is used to cure scabies in one dose, and i was freaking out! i already had it on hand to deal with the lice.
(again, freaking out. lice for 2+ months, and i had read some people saying ivermectin didn't always work on lice? and it was cheap at $10)

Just would really like something different but not sure what. I'm all about the eggs but would like some "pretty" girls too. Any advice on an attractive breed that's also a good layer?

Take a look a black australorps. Very calm bird and an excellent layer. A BA holds the records for the most eggs laid in on year, 364. Not saying to expect that but they do lay quite well. The real bonus is they have the same square body type as an orpington though not as heavy. The real plus is watching them in the sunshine. While they are a black bird they have an iridescent green sheen to their feathers.

Ok... I got the pics of Mr. Fluffers feet. I don't know how I managed to get him so easy all the sudden, but it was like... He's there, stuffing his face, and I got him.

If one bird has mites then you should assume that they all have mites. You are going to need to treat each bird and completely clean and dust your coop and nest boxes. It doesn't matter how clean you keep your coop, all flocks can become infected. The most common source is from wild birds. Once you have you coop clean dust all surfaces with DE. Since the life cycle of a mite is only 4 to 7 days they are quite prolific and no single treatment is going to remedy the problem. I would suggest at least 3 treatments a week apart. TSC carry a spray that is made specifically for mites. Not only can you treat the leg with it the entire bird can be sprayed.

Some of the old timers here will know if it is scaly leg mite and how far to go with treating it.

While some of my feathers have molted and others are turning grey, and because I have senior moments, I sure you weren't talking about me.

I almost forgot, the Farm and fleet in allendale looks like it has mille de'uncle bantams. they are light brownish red pattern, yellow fuzz legs with regular # toes, if anyone else wanted that kind. May even have been on sale, they were selling straight runs for $1 apiece. Really chewed my nails over not getting them, but i really need the porcelain ones. (I think that's what my breeding experiment would have eventually created).

I wanted the millies! However, *just say no Kim* I have Millie eggs in my incubator from Theron...and he has graciously told them that they have to all be pullets...

I hung my new nest boxes up today! And I put chips then straw in there, and two eggs each...and the girls ignored them. So, I picked up a Polish (ambushed a Polish) and stuffed her inside one of the boxes. I figure they are going to ignore them- they much prefer laying their eggs outside behind hay bales under snow, etc...but I wanted to see ONE bird roosting outside the box. lol. Stuff the bird, and then move away= bird flies out of nest box like I set her on fire.
We will see if they will check them out and like them. eventually.

OK. so far i only found them at the big hatcheries, (25 min order

) but i am still looking, and chick days are for a while yet, so hopefully we will get lucky! (if you got a trio, i would buy from you mabe in the future)

I took this picture today. I thought it was adorable, a chick and a duckling who are BFFs since they were raised by the same broody. But this duckling is now over the rainbow bridge. At dusk I went outside to put all the birds away, I heard an awful, distressed peeping. The only turkey we have left had the duckling pinned under his claws and was viciously pecking at it. I shoved him off and rescued the duckling. I brought it inside where the light was better. Most of the skin on the neck was gone, exposing the muscle. And it was in terrible shock, it wasn't struggling at all. I decided it was best to euthanize it, since even though we had a suture kit and sterile gloves on hand, there wasn't much skin left to sew together...

The turkey has a date with the axe tomorrow. After I attended the duckling I stuffed him in a large dog kennel with water so he will have an empty digestive track and crop for tomorrow. I was kinda fond of the turkey, but what happened to that duckling was freaking awful. The broody and her duckling n chicks have been with the rest of the flock for weeks, so why did the turkey go apesnot on the duckling today?
