Fuzzy! You are a doll!

I only have one coop, 6x8, dirt floor with hardware cloth underneath. Only have 2 ducks 9 ducklings and 5 guineas at the moment. I do have an old rabbit hutch with a run on it for overflow birds during the summer as it has wire sides and no heat. Didn't think I would be using it this year but now that I'm getting 50 chicks, and I haven't even placed my pearl guinea order at the feed store yet..

But by the time winter rolls around I should be back to a number that will fit my coop just fine. But which ones do I keep and which ones do I eat!?

Got an old Sears and roebuck 3 tier brooder in the garage I use for the chicks. Got it from my FIL who has pretty much decided to retire from farming all together, except for the occasional steer or two.

What do you do with the guinea fowl?

I saw the neighbor and asked her point blank if she called the city. At first she tried to deny it, then admitted that she did. She said she did because I didn't cut down the tree in my front yard. Then said something that the chickens were teasing and upsetting her dog. She started to get fired up about then and started in on how I "just do whatever you want to do".

I interrupted her and said that it's my house and I can do whatever I want. She stormed away and slammed the door. I don't think we will be chatting for some time.

I'm waiting for the ordinance officer to call me back...

...she was mad because you didn't cut down a tree? What the heck? Is it blocking her view or something? What does she have against a tree and how does that translate to a small flock of backyard chickens?

Ferret- looks like 23 and 96 is about half-way. Do you know of somewhere there that we could meet you?

I'm not familiar with Brighton, which looks to be where 23 and 96 cross paths, but looking at Google maps there's a McDonald's on S. Old 23, right off an exit ramp that we could do a chicken exchange at. Might put a scare in the roos as well, make them think they're gonna be nuggets for all their crowing.
It looks like we'll be able to head out a little before 1pm, so that should put us at the McD's parking lot around 2. We'll be in a black Colorado truck, there will be 3 of us, BF, myself and our friend who wants the roos.

The tree is out by the street on my side of the lot line, but because I didn't ask her permission when I planted it 8-9 years ago, it has to go.

Well, we never really had snow...and she has 2 adult kids living at home...
I'd move in a heartbeat if I could sell my house. It's valued at half of what I paid for it and I only have 2 years left on the mortgage so I can't walk away.
I don't think it would sell either, there are half a dozen vacant and foreclosed houses on this block and 2 more being repossessed, so not a good market.

Anybody want to adopt me?

Stacy - I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

Mom2 - I hope the pain lessens for you soon. I'm so glad you were able to get it taken care of though.

I don't have any more trips on the schedule until late summer now so I stopped off at TSC on the way home from the gym and made a deal with the manager.

Stacy, I too am very sorry for your loss. (hugs)
Mom2, I hope that pain goes away and fast.
Olive Hill....what kind of deal did you make with the manager? Did you trade marked, green colored paper for these birds? was THAT the deal going on here?

To everybody else, hello. I think it is safe to pull the kiddie pool out for the ducks today.

Could you rent it? I have a friend in real estate and she specializes in getting people into rural properties with little or no money down.

Well, renting your house out would give you income. And farm living can be very self sufficient and low cost............I'll send you a p.m. on this.......... my friend is a really good lady. I grew up with her and she is into a whole program of restoring farms in Michigan and getting folks into those farms......
