Well that did not go well.

I received a ticket and have to contact the court to set up a hearing. Even though he did not see a single chicken, hear a chicken or anything of the like.
He wanted to nit pick a bunch of stuff like why there was no grass growing in some areas. I showed him the grass seed already on the ground and the open bag sitting next to the spreader. Then he said the pond wasn't allowed. Called the tent garage a "chicken coop" even though it was full of yard machinery.

It was pretty obvious that he had his mind made up even before he got here so when he asked to go into the garage I politely declined. He didn't care for that answer. He said I "must" be hiding something. I told him it was messy and I was embarrassed for anyone to see it. He almost laughed at that point.

Anyway, the first shot has been fired across my bow. The Garden City Chicken War has been declared.

Bummer. Yep, time to start reading all the legal do's and dont's for that lat and long. I'm with Chicken Grandma, if your short/mid term plans can include selling/renting, maybe you can find something zoned for peace of mind sake. I'm pretty sure (after my short time on earth) urban madness will encroach on most country places. Unfortunetly nobody is immune what with bypass highways cutting thru farmland, right-of-ways formed, and people wanting to build "projects" (housing developments with names like Deer Acres, Rolling Meadows Estates, etc}. We are the same age I think and I know you still have a few good years to do some frog hunting, tree planting, and chicken raising - maybe on a peace of heaven rather than a war zone.

BTW, I ended up getting another Comise and a D'Anjou. I'm fencing the suckers this year so the deer will leave them alone. It'll look ugly but what else can I do....

Not all flowering trees produce fruit. There are tons of flowering trees bred to produce infertile flowers. Not to mention male flowers vs. female flowers.

Yep, the mind was made up well in advance. Not much I could do about it except go to court. I hope I can find a pro-bono lawyer.

Ours are D'anjou.

My brother-in-law is a lawyer and probably wouldn't mind answering a few random legal question if you want to put any to me.

OH, don't forget the snuff... Not only was he a self medicating with the hypodermic, he also snorted the white...

Hmm, I am about halfway through all the Sherlock Holmes books, but there has not yet been mention of him doing snuff, or snorting coke, though it makes reference to him shooting up cocaine and morphine. I have to admit, I had never heard of anyone shooting up cocaine.

Ha! I finally busted a turkey hen coming back from the nest. Didn't want to bother her too much. I don't want them moving it now that I've found it, but I'll have to go out later and snatch the eggs for the 'bator and hopefully keep them laying. They really had it hidden this year. I'd even resorted to telling the kids I had $10 for whomever could find me the turkey nest. I'd searched, they searched for three days hoping to get that money and none of us could find it.

Well that did not go well.

so sorry Raz, was hoping that would go beter

Thanks for the tips, snowflake, now i just gotta figure out what one the "white" pine is! I hope it's the one that smells so nice. We have quite a little variety of pines around here. :)
White Pine has very long needles

Where had they hidden the nest Olive? Do you have fake turkey eggs to replace the real eggs with?

Under an old brush pile kind of near the edge of the woods in an area where there used to be an old barn, all that remains is part of the foundation, but the terrain is wonky there so it's hard to get through. I'll have to go down, around through the woods and up into the brush pile from there, rather than down in from the yard. No, I will not replace the eggs with fake ones. I don't want a clutch of anything in that nest to tell them it's time to set. If there are no eggs they'll keep laying for a while, otherwise they stop once they get 12-20 eggs in the nest and since Turkeys are seasonal layers that's it for the season. When they quit, they're done until either fall or the following spring depending on the weather and whether or not they decide to lay in the fall that year, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Once I have enough for hatching if they're still laying I'll let them have a clutch but not until I get my quota first. That's the price they pay to pull their weight. Pretty sweet ride, if you ask me.

White pines are the ones that have wispy long needles, they are kind of soft, and there's 5 needles in a "bunch"...5 needles, 1 for each of the letters in "white". I leanred that in 7th grade science class, along with how to identify white and red oaks, which would very likely be considered politcally incorrect these days lol. But guess what, I still remember that stuff, 19 years later!

Red Pines have 3 needles. Just like whites having 5. At least that's the way I learned it. White oaks and red oaks have differnet leaves, not sure why pointy or rounded leaves would be non-PC unless your talking about the different sizes of their "seeds".

Raz, a little advice from someone with several more years of life experience. While it is a given that you neighbor falls way short of the definition and is not a nice person, it won't accomplish a thing if you get angry. Your anger would just makes her actions more satisfying for her. No matter how much grief she has caused you, you can't let her know that you are upset. It would be much better to redirect your emotions towards revenge. Stay up nights if you have to and come up with as many devious plots as possible. Remember that revenge is a dish best served cold.

Don't get mad, get even.

Pinus strobus L. (eastern white pine) is the Michigan state tree. You can tell how old it is by counting the whorls of branches from the ground up. They usually produce a new whorl each season. Of course that is not 100% true, the trees don't always read the book.

Oaks were fairly hard for me to identify, they hybridize quite readily. I have a chart that shows which ones can cross with what. One tree can have leaf characteristics of 2 or 3 ancestral parents. My tree identification class was so difficult that I had to take it over to improve my GPA. But it was an awesome class.
