Maybe I am just in a resentful mood. But I am sick of being the only one to do any house work.

I have a 16 year old and a 20 year old. I have to work real hard with them to get them to do their chores well. So you have a long road ahead. I can say that with supervision and encouragement my 16 year old will do his chores. My 20 year old needs just a reminder. They both don't sass or refuse. My kids have been doing chores all their lives and I tried to work with them and make it positive when they were young. Then as teens I had to say ' if you want that ride to the tennis court - get the trash out and the dishwasher unloaded first'. That all worked well. Just know it is a long long road.............patience.

Put an egg under her tonight... then put a chick under her tomorrow... Give her the old switcharoo...

Hillbilly Hen-

Which banties can I sign you up for? Take your pick...dont worry about being greedy..I will save them for you.

Nope, not me! No banties here, no rabbits either. Banties are too small to put with the other chickens and rabbits would drive my dog crazy which will in turn drive me crazy. By the way, that would be a short trip for me.

Alright... I have a problem.

Skatter went broody Tuesday... I candled her eggs already because the other hens kept making her move out of her nest box. I moved her to the not used nest box and those darn silly bwitches decided to use that box too. SO, the eggs would get cold, and the new ones would get warm... Well anyway, I candled, and of the 5 only one is showing any life, and that one is a bantam. The others, from the gold dots and one of Fias... Nothing. I am thinking that maybe ok though, since the shells look pretty porous. I moved Skatter to the broody dog coop, even though I was planning to move Leila to it this weekend. I will re-furbish the littles brooder and put Leila and her 2 silkies in that. HOLY POOP! It is the weekend, and she's due for hatching Tuesday-ish. OH MAN! Shoot. Ok, SO, here is my problem... since only one egg looks like it has life, and I am not even certain it is going to continue development, I saw a few veins, but nothing like they should be yet... But will candle again on Monday... How long do chick days go on for? I am thinking I can get her some fresh popped chicks Tuesday from TSC... Or do ya'll think that I can give her a few 4 day olds? I'd love to have a few more SLW and GLW. I can call the guy in Muskegon and see if he has any Faverolle chicks too and stuff them under her... BUT, I only want girls... He's a strait run guy... Think I could do 4day olds?

Chickmate...I KNOW you want some of these Serama mixes..that are so adorable, they squeak...

Ahhh, no thanks Mom. I'm with HH. No banties and no bunnies here. I really don't have any use for banties. They are fine if you want a house chicken or just to look at or show, but I'm in it for the eggs. I also have too many hawks around here and it's hard enough to keep the standard size chickens from being hawk bait.

Here is what I found in my big coop yesterday. Mom brought her babies in for a visit. First picture you can't see so good because of the sun. In the second look at the middle top guy - he has a little mohawak! And Spot who is on the end is most certainly a roo.

I think I see three little roos in this picture, Tap. Very cute ones at that!

This is the new injured hen. She came out a little dark in the photo, her feathers are more golden:

Mom, what's goin' on with the shirt nailed (buttoned) to the wall?

OK, I want THIS one, banty or not! You have got to stop this weird experimental breeding Mom! You're going to create some kind of Jurassic Park in your back yard. First it was ostrich crosses that resulted in velociraptors and now flamingo hybrids???

I'm hoping taking the nestboxes away will solve the issue...she was walking around when I went out there a while later. I'll give the boxes back at night. I don't want them to raise the chicks though, I'm assuming when dealing with chicks they don't lay that well right?

Yay Jen! I have 5 ams out, and 3 bantam cochins, hope there will still be a few more

I can only see one pip...but lots of shaking! I figure they'll start coming out by tonight. Silkies and Showgirls and Speckled sussex this time...possibly a mutt or two from eggs i collected from some mixes that lived here briefly.
