Wow! It is warm here yet. I left the coops dutch doors open on top. Dont worry... they have hardware cloth covering the opening. I have to put some on the littles coop. I have been introducing them to the roost in the winter run... SO they know its there. I haven't finished it to make the summer coop yet, but I do have the fencing for the bottom half. I do not have the wood yet for the top half.... AND I still need to make a door. I put another roost in the littles coop, and them idiots are STILL on the first roost. I figured they'd like the new one too, since they won't be all on top of each other. Yeah... How little I know. LOL. Their door is open also.

Two more days... Two more days... Oh yeah oh yeah!

I was checking out how to do the 3 Sisters... I think that I can do that... I do not eat corn much really, but my chickens sure enjoy fresh ears. SO, think I will do it. And it looks so darn pretty. I would have never known of it if Juise hadn't mentioned it. SO, thanks for the idea.

As for potatoes... I am wanting to try some, I have a wood box that I am going to put them in, They will sit along my retaining wall of my drain field... What particular stand does well in a box? I'd like yukons... Those are my fav. I like reds too...

Gotta go make nitey nite snacks for my butts.

Kim, I think the word circling in your description of the suspect bird pretty much narrows it down to turkey vulture. Hawks and eagles don't really spend much time circling while a vulture can soar in circles for hours.

Since Hope was very involved with the baby shower today I wound up going both this morning and tonight to care for her step father, John. This morning after I took Granny to church I went to check on him and insure that he had taken his medication. He was still sleeping! Then it was difficult to get him to understand why it was important for him to take so many pills. Tonight, when I took him his supper, he was asking if I knew what was happening to him. Was he going to wind up laying in the floor dead? I tried to explain that none of us know it we will see morning and laying around worrying about dying was going to help. While I doubt that he was ever the sharpest knife in the drawer he no longer has the sense that God gave a goose.

While Granny is 8 years older, and her living with us has changed our lives, she is still active and involved with everything going on. She is happy to greet the day while John can to nothing but complain. Sure makes helping someone during their so called "golden years" less arduous when they have a positive attitude.

seriously though it's sooo hard to tell on silkies. I would post pictures of them on the "what sex is this thread" if you really want to know and even then it's hard to say they're right. they say a hen's topnot is rounder.
LOL I thought that is what you would say. Thanks

Do you still want partridge chicks? I shipped some in from Georgia that come from the same lines-ish that most of my flock comes from. (Bobbie Porto or soemthing like that out of Florida) Some of them are going to be partridge and I'm not really wanting any of those. My luck will be that only patridge ones hatch lol

Lots more pips tonight! More chicks should be popping out soon!

Glad to see you back Robin!

Well, one chick is out! We went to Impression 5 Center today to pass the time so I don't touch the bator.

Lots more pipping going on in there. The one that's out is from the mixed birds I had at my house for a couple days. I was putting eggs in anyways and decided to throw them in as well. This one is a lot cuter now that it's fluffed up...I think it looks like a T-rex...cause it's got a big head and little arms!

In my family we always seem to bring up that movie! Cute lil chickie!!! Can't wait for mine!!!

They declared war on the nice grass right away, and ate them all before the sun went down. This morning, the pen was one muddy, turned up ground.

If they didn't dig everything up, I would kill for a pigglet!!!!

This morning I was on my way in to work..... and I see a tiny bird in the road... thought it was a sparrow or something till I looked in my mirror.. and saw that looked more like a chick and it's hunkered down on the line. I thought sure as heck the bugger would get run over or may already have been. (I wish I got a picture of it). So I backed up.. opened the car door and scooped it up... it was a baby woodcock! He was not moving, so I turned around and stopped at the house to show my DH. Turns out the chick was fine and perked right up, so I hoped back in the car and stopped where I found him. I saw his mom at the edge of the road so I put the chick down at the edge of the road and he took off running, holding his little wings straight up and out! I waited to see that mom found him watched them head into the field, and then headed on to work. I've not seen a woodcock in years!

The chick looked like this one.

In case no one knows what a woodcock looks like... they're a very reclusive bird.

Have a good day everyone!

Yay for you saving that baby!!!

My BF had to talk me out of saving a pigeon the other day

It was hurt... but the poor thing was under a bridge on the side of the road, and if I had tried to save it... it or I would have surely been hit.

Our chicks! I snuggled each of them for a minute or two, checked them for any trouble. One of them seems to be a bit sleepier than the rest. I can hear them peeping.
Sweet lil fluffers you got there!!!

My grandparents all seem to have lost their marbles...( can't wait to lose mine

) My great grandmother had a stroke a few years back, but until then she was working and getting around just fine. It might have something to do with how they treated their bodies when they were younger...

Oh you bet I do Jen. PM me with a price. Right now I only have the one little partridge I got from you and the rest are white. Thanks

Everyone was chatty today!! I'm feeling tired so not much to talk about tonight. Had the chickens out tilling my garden area today lol...it was so funny, my leghorn Daisy (who is the friendliest) came up to me and I picked a dandelion and held it out to her. She took it and proceeded to run around the whole garden several times with it in her beak. It was the cutest thing ever. Everyone was chasing her trying to see the prize she had but she wouldn't give it up. Anyway, think I'm gonna get ready for bed now. Talk to you guys tomorrow night!
