Oh hush. You know you're only back because you missed me.

But seriously, that's one of the nicer things I've been called even by my own MOTHER!!! She once called me directly back because I'd just talked to my husband on the phone before her and said "I love you" at the end of our conversation out of habit. She thought there was something wrong with me. LOL!

LOL too funny. And YES, I did miss you !!!!

Drats, I think the eggs I gave my broody are goners. I had moved my broody with eggs 2 days ago and locked her in, she settled in and seemed used to her new digs. Today I opened the hatch this morning so she could stretch if needed - she did and then went back in, so I felt comfortable leaving the door open. Well, I just went outside and found her on her old (eggless) nest in the coup and the fertile eggs cold to the touch. I have no idea how long she's been off them, but they didn't seem warm at all... I put her back on them, but is there much point? :(

See, thats the problem I had with Skatter. Only it was the big hens pushing her out of what ever box I sat her in with her eggs, so she'd get up on the roost, and forget to get back in the box, then she'd get in the box with the new eggs till I finally moved her and her eggs to the dog coop that I used for Leilas last brood. Well, anyway... all of her eggs except the one as of friday were duds...

Thanks Olive. I just got a call from Jerry, he said he didn't have much in the way of Favs cuz he's only got two hens right now and only one is laying, but that he does have some in the hatcher. SO, going to see how soon I can get them/due to hatch. I might just get her some dots anyway, and brooder the Faverolles. Nice dual purpose, so... can always make bbq out of the extras.

Speaking of BBQ, the neighbors CX are about 6 weeks now. He's already going to get them to the butcher cuz they can hardly walk. I will get a picture of them fatties. 23 of them are going through 100# of food every 2 weeks! I was like WHAT! Is that normal? And no, he does not let them run around. Finally gave them a small pen outside for them to get out of the coop they were in. They gotta be 8 pounds or so..

It just started snowing. Not just flurries, I can't see the neighbor's farm! And it is actually sticking, so the newly growing green grass is being covered up. *sigh* I knew we'd pay for this wonderful weather. To think, this past weekend my family planed 50 sugar maples and 25 black walnut trees while is was so warm and sunny.

The eggs are likely fine. They may be delayed a tad, but will probably still develop. My incubator was out for nearly seven hours in a recent power outage, and all the eggs pulled through just fine!

OH! Has anyone tried the Pink Lemonade Blueberries? I saw them at TSC today, and am considering 2 bushes. There are blueberry fields across the street... SO, I would guess my soil would be good. I need acidic, so I can have it tested to see... Well anyway, I am interested, but thought I'd ask if anyone else has tried them yet. AND how long/many years would it be before they bare fruit? I know nothing in this regard. And yes... I have a computer and can just research it... BUT I figure RaZ will know.

Anyone have any ideas for a good tree to plant in soggy, boggy ground? Willows are the only thing coming to mind, and I would like to plant something that will do well in that area of the property.

Birch, pussywillows, I have them and willows in the wetland areas

A new hybrid? We have 40 highbush of a few diff. varieties. My Michigan book lists over 40 variety cultivars but not that one. It's pretty easy to grow highbush here. If you have access to pine trees just use pine needles to mulch with. They love the acidic soil additive like pine needles. Mine thrive without much help other than I do water during the dry spells. They like full sun but I have a bunch shaded that do well also. The birds and raccoons are my biggest problems. They can strip the berries at will. I have anywhere from 20 year old bushes to 2 year old and they all produce. The older canes get pruned heavily in late fall after the later crops. The bushes I have produce at diiferent times to keep production steady. Go for it and don't overthink a blueberry. My SIL's Dad just passed away in Conneticut and had a few 3 foot MI highbushes. I dug them up, wrapped burlap over the new leaves. Threw them in my truck, drove 1000 miles, replanted them, and they look like they have been here for years.
