Raz, thanks for linking that, it was really interesting. I like to understand things. This:

"While two studies on coffee ground composting reported mildly acidic pHs of 4.6 and 5.26, others have measured neutral (7.7)
to somewhat alkaline (8.4) pH levels. One researcher found that the pH of soil treated with coffee compost increased after 14 to
21 days of incubation, gradually decreasing thereafter."

seems to correlate with another article I'd just been reading yesterday that said this:

"...we were sent some test results that showed grounds to be neutral on the pH scale! To find out what gives, I called Will Brinton,
founder and Director of the Wood’s End Research Laboratory in Maine, the definitive testers of soils, composts, and raw ingredients
used in large-scale composting. Will solved the mystery instantly. Woods End, it turned out, was the source of that neutral test!
Ah, but some follow-up investigation later revealed that it hadn’t been coffee grounds alone, as the person submitting the material
for testing had stated, but grounds mixed with raw yard waste, the classic ‘dry brown’ material that is the heart of a good compost pile."

It also went on to say,

"“Coffee grounds alone are highly acidic,” says Will, who saved all the grounds from his Lab’s break room for a week recently just to test for us (“Eight o’ Clock” coffee, which I remember fondly from our old A & P neighborhood supermarket). They came out at 5.1, a perfect low-end pH for plants like blueberries that thrive in very acidic soil. “But that’s the most gentle result we’ve ever found,” Will quickly added, explaining that the other 31 samples of raw coffee grounds they’ve tested over the years all had a pH below 5, too acidic for even some of the so-called acid loving plants."

So I am sure my best bet is really just to test my soils, as you always say, and maybe I will get around to making that PH tester from violet flowers I have considered trying a few times, although it's probably a bit vague for you tastes.

I can say that coffee grounds really seemed to bring my Rhododendron bushes back to life after they suffered from having giant sheets of ice dropped on them from the roof by my lovely husband and my brother, made a rose that had looked mostly dead for years look like a real plant again, completely decimated a patch of Phlox I poured it on, and burned a hole straight through a low growing evergreen bush so horrible that it hasn't even begun to recover years later. Uh... oops?

hey guys need some help here.

I went to blow out (with a blower) my angora bunny and her coat burst into snow ACK!! I parted her coat and sure nuff...she's got TONS of dander. Am I battling fur mites here? How do I treat this?

Sarah... You are not a moron... It is almost imossible to figure out. I got it to make something but it was a crazy process. I drew the coop on paint in 10 minutes... Got something like what I wanted on sketchups after an hour of struggling.

Yeah we have a banana tree! my mother got it for us last year... it was only a couple inches high... now it is a couple feet!!! We have to keep it inside most of the year but it was super happy last summer! The leaves on it keep breaking cause they get so darn big and heavy, but it always has another to shoot right up after it!!

Yay! I am excited about the shrooms! I have never found one before!!! Wanna know my secret??? Bird seed!! They are growing where all the birds threw their hulls from the feeder!!! I was looking up growing morels and found this highly scientific page, they grew morels in a way no average man could ever hope to replicate, however they used pureed seeds for the medium to grow them in!!!!

Are there any pine trees in the vicinity?

Ok... didn't get a pick of the roasters... But man are they huge! They are going to the butcher next week. Neighbor says in all, he's got about $200 invested between the birds, food and finally the butchering next week. Yowza!

I have absolutely no pine here, so I think I will be having a running battle keeping them blueberry bushes happy. Of course I can always get pine needles I guess.. BUT, I will pass and maybe get lucky at the Farm Market or roadside. My friend Julie was telling me there is an excellent stand out Juise's way that beats the Farm Market.

How about grapes? What would I need for them?

Just convince the neighbor to try the duck eggs. LOL. He's going to make chorizo for the guys at work with them, and then tell them all afterwards that they were ducks eggs. I am amazed at people who freak over the thought of duck eggs.

Thanks for the pound cake recipe Opa. I love coconut, and my mom doesn't. HEHEEHEE. SO, will have to make it, and I won't have to share! Maybe I will make it and have a coffee date with a few friends next week. I have never made a pound cake... AND now I am going to make 3!

Gotta go do nite time fill ups.

Can I grow peas on a trellis? I have never grown peas before, and on a whim I bought some...

ok belay that request. I got ahold of the breeder and she thinks its just dry skin and to put flaxseed oil in her food. Now I can stop feeling as though things are crawling on me.

I don't believe it's wise to bathe an Angora. You can do it but you shouldn't need to. I'd shave her before I would attempt to bathe her.

I think Nancy was wondering if you were bathing her too much, kind of like a dog... if you bathe it too much it'll get dry skin.

I bet Jen will chime in here at some point, but I wonder if adding some fat to her diet would help? Can you do that with Rabbits? Say BOSS? I know with most other types of animals -- dogs, horses, etc -- more fats in the diet can help remedy dry skin and dull coat issues.
