UGH! I am a real cheese kinda girl... I love eggplant parm... yum yum. AND spaghetti squash.

Funny story... I had never had spaghetti squash before, so I got some, didn't know a darn thing about cooking it, so, I get it, cut it up, clean it out... toss that... Well, turns out the part your supposed to eat, I threw away. LOL.

Well, chicks are doing better, i had to take them out of the bucket. Boy have they grown a lot since a week ago! Bean, my little round runt baby, did lose most of his toe. He was the one who climbed into the feeder, and got attacked by a bigger chick while in the bin at the store. He/she is already a cuddler, hardly peeps at all when you pick him/her up, rubs her face all over my hand.

For pearl, i made some mash in the bottom of a milk top, and poked it at her until her crop was a bit fuller. Put some sugar in the water, now she's drinking more, and zipping around. How are the other porcelain de'uccles doing that were bought out of the TSC bins?

Gotta go make some pudding. Have an odd craving for homemade pudding.

Just under 2 weeks... I am just going do like I did for Skeeter. Since she obviously didn' t like being in the dog house, wants to be in the big coop. She's just as bad as Aster was in the mean broody dept.
Well just because a chicken goes broody doesn't mean you have to let it sit on eggs. Just get her out in the yard and moving on with life. And I hope my little Leila gets a break after this. She must be worn right out!

My brother is Vegan- absolute complete Vegan. Makes the holidays difficult- and his visits, actually. Have to check the ingredients in EVERYTHING- did you know that some of those box cookies contain Beef lard? I had no idea.
Have to make sure soap is okay, snacks, noodle, meals, etc...cant use anything that ever originated with any animal or bee. Very tricky to bake a cake with no eggs.
I applaud his dedication, but I wish it was easier to pull off a holiday meal. BTW- he gets Eggplant Lasagna at every Christmas.

Geez. We generally bring at least a main dish, and usually some sides as well ourselves. I don't expect everyone else to cater to us.

And I always bring snacks for the kids, and any commodities we may need that are tricky. I can give you some cake recipes that work just fine without eggs if ever you want them, just let me know. Our families are all very nice, and often make some side dishes for us that are easier to do, like placing things like cheese and bacon on the side of the salad instead of in, or making dishes that are "normal" but vegan anyway. My parents are a little more in tune with it, and know plenty of snacks / cereals / meals that we and the kids can have, and my mum even bought a great big vegan cookbook - the Veganomicon, to help her cook for us, bless her heart. My older brother and his son are vegan as well. DH's mom does try, but just wasn't really a cook in the first place, she did learn much that she is very pleased about though when she used to work with me. DH's older brother is also vegan, so we aren't terribly oddball in our families.

Oh how irritating that could be... HOWEVER! That leaves a lot of room to get creative. BUT, lasagna is wrong with out REAL CHEESE!

Nova, I have made a nice vegan lasagna that the omnivores I served positively could not believe did not have actual cheese in it, among many other dishes I have surprised people with.

Hey, I do have a few of the two gallon waterers that are galvanized . They are made in the USA but I cannot for the life of me remember who makes them. The name ends in Farm something. Anyway, most co-ops, TSC, etc sell them. The galvanized coating is pretty good. You could always get the plastic ones. Just FYI, the Ravenna Auction usually has used stuff like that and you can pick up stuff for pennys on the dollar. Saturdays, at noon they start the chicken and samll animal auctions also. They have a website. Just something else to do.

I got this one at TSC, I will have to take a look at it to see if there is any indication as to who made it. Thanks for the info. I try to avoid plastics as much as possible.

Some of that imitation cheese is off limits too..cant use vegetarian cheese without reading the label because somewhere in the ingredients it may say, "Casein"..... however, I am impressed with how it tastes especially using the eggplant sliced as the lasagna noodles...

Daiya makes the best vegan "cheese" you can buy, though I think my homemade baked "cheese" is much yummier, if I do say so myself.

Squash is pretty popular with my in laws but I can't stand the stuff.

How common are broody hens?

We headed up to TSC down the road for some stuff for the chickens. All the chicks are finally half off (missed that sale by a few days, bummer) and my husband said "Well, we have a 20 ft x 3 1/2 ft space at least for the coop. You can have more if you want." I was torn but since they were closing I left with a wistful glance at the chicks. Unfortunately he doesn't realize that to have that many chicks we need more room for a larger brooder or more brooders, more lights, more feed, and at least two more waterers/feeding stations.

Thanks for the tips on the lamb. We grilled them up to medium outside and even my picky son sucked down the green beans, couscous, and steak.

how common are broody's that don't bite?

Skeeter and Leila were not vicious. Skatter is. Aster was too, only not as vicious as Skatter.

Oh, I believe you, Juise. My Exhub and I did the veg thing for a while. I did the soy cheese, milk, veggie everything. We got not fertile eggs... I just had to have a steak! Its not for everyone. I do enjoy meatless meal a few times a week though.
