Well, I guess people like that serve some purpose.

I ordered my counter today and was told to pay for it at any cashier. I also bought a piece of plywood that I had them cut for me. The cut was off by an inch and the worker said that they would give me 10% off the price. So the cashier rang up the plywood AND the counter less 10%.

Hello BYC Michigan Peeps,
I live in the lil ole town of Charlotte. Nooo, it's not pronounced like the pig in Charlotte's Webb (great book & movie). It's pronounced Char-Lot.(a.k.a. Chartucky) And we are the mighty, might Orioles! Go Orioles!

This is only my 2nd post. I only joined last month. I have done tons and tons of reading, and absolutely love all the wisdom, knowledge, and caring that this website has to offer. I had raised about 50 chickens back when I was in FFA. But that was to many years ago.

So I feel as though I am a newbie to raising chickens again. I never realized there were SO many breeds of chickens. I was raised with horses & hogs. So all of the chicken breeds is a whole new foreign concept to me. Though I find it quite intriguing.

Okay, down to the Nitty Chicken Gritty:
  • I am the proud momma of 4 beautiful (human) girls
    smile.png
  • 2 - 2 year old female Boston Terrier Sisters: Bella Mae & Olivia Lou (both spayed)
    smile.png
  • 1 - 1 year old Calico Barn Cat: Sassy (possibly expecting her 1st litter - jury is still out on that 1; will update)
    big_smile.png
(After suspected 1st litter, she will be updated on shots & spayed. & if not preggers spayed)
big_smile.png

  • 1st set of 12 baby chicks are as follows:
  • 2 Plymouth Barred Rock Roosters: Spike & Black Beak
  • 2 Barred Rock Pullets: Bubbles & Lucy Goosey
  • 2 Cornish Rocks: Mr. & Mrs. Cornish (lucked out to have 1 cockerel & 1 pullet)
    big_smile.png
  • 2 Black Sex Links Pullets: Raven & Fluffy
  • 4 Isa Brown Pullets: Henny Penny, Hopper, Pepper, and Rosie

  • Then we had purchased 6 more:
  • 1 Barred Rock Pullet: (unnamed at this time)
  • 1 Buff Orpington Pullet: Fluffy Buffy
  • & 4 more Cornish Rocks: that will remain unnamed because they all look alike!
    lau.gif

  • Then the 3rd round of chicks was 12 more Cornish Rocks. (Yes, we really eat A LOT of chicken around here)

  • Then the very last set for this year, the 4th set is:
  • 3 Cornish Rocks: that will again, remain unnamed, although, a couple have very distinct personalities!
  • 3 Black Australorps: that have so far just earn the name Penguin Chickens!

The 3 Black Australorps are my 12 year old daughter's chicks. So I am waiting on her to name them. And for her sake, I sure hope they are all pullets, because we only keep maybe 2 roosters at all times. All Cornish Rock's will be butchered. And we missed out on some Rhode Island Red's, some Polish & Silkie Bantams. My 12 year old daughter was very upset with me. I told her there is always Craigslist, the local paper, and the small animal sale at the County fair in July. After telling her that, she then cut me some slack.

I have once again learned that chickens are their own (& my) entertainment.

Even though I get pecked and pinched daily

, I still look forward to seeing them everyday
frow.gif
. I just kinda feel bad for the Cornish Rocks
sad.png
. They get SO big SO quick and have such a hard time getting around
hmm.png
. I don't like to see them (what seems like) suffering. I know for next years batches of baby chicks, to do WAY more research

Hi excitedmichicks! I'm pretty new here as well. :)

My husband and I just got home from getting a fully intact chicken coop! I'm so excited! It's older and used, so needs work, but as a whole it's going to work really well, and it was very helpful that we were given it.

Someone needs to take my money away from me. I went to find two silkies and they mysteriously doubled into four. What are they grey-ish ones? I know I have a partridge and a black but I don't know what the grey ones will be. I tried giving them to Waffles and I think she was overwhelmed. She's not having 8 babies she said.

Who can blame her really?

Last night, about 9,my Yogi was going crazy barking and growling..I looked out the utility room window and there were THREE men standing at the back fence- looking into my yard from that house behind me where Yogi hates the guy.

Holy Creepers! That would completely wig me out.
