last year i found patches of pink clover,

and some of it is alsike clover, but some looked like it was a cross between the big purple ones and the alsike. (Alsike clover has something in it that can make cattle sick if they eat too much) i saved some seeds from the non-toxic one, since my birds like to eat clover. I'm thinking it would be a win-win situation!

eta, i think some types of clover like wet feet, and there is a trend toward using it instead of the traditional lawn, so maybe this is an option for you guys with the problem areas?

In that case....lol. no, i still can't have them. Though i like the bit about the grass clipping. Sure this isn't fate telling you something???

Aren't these self contained units, that perform a necessary chore around the farm? Just think of all the grass you wouldn't have to clip........

What an amazing site this is. I now correspond with people from all over the world. I've got to meet some wonderful folks and at our upcoming Chickenstock it appears that I will be meeting many more. And another benefit is the knowledge you can obtain here. Of instance tonight I learned that baldness is a problem in Japan. It must be so or why else would this be posted?

The one that is my avatar now. The one who gives you awake-nightmares. Wanna put some in your neighbors yard?
I figgered it out. You just have to give her her own chicken as a gift. A peace offering. She will be so flattered, and fall in love, and you can all co-exist peacefully ever after..

This morning just got better. As I sat drinking coffee Hope spotted two toms dancing at the back of the property. I grabbed my shotgun and quickly stalked the 150 yards that separated us. Fortunately there is a large mound of dirt that blocked their view of me. Belly crawled up and over the berm and only one tom left.
Congrats Opa, nice turkey. Must be he didn't get the memo that hunting season has started

DH and his dad will be going out sometime soon.

LOL! The thought crossed my mind when they started hatching. Also crossed my mind that I was going to have to buy some ducks for the pup to practice herding on later this summer and these could also fill that role. We'll see... they're up for bids if anyone wants them, but I can always throw them outside and just put them in the freezer before I have to feed them this winter, too. And the pup could use them for practice in the meantime. I just really don't have the time and would prefer not to need to deal with it at all.

LOL! That's okay. I guess they do look similar in that pic. I should have specified. I had to laugh when they were mistaken twice in one page of posts though.

looks like a good week to try to reseed my bald area in front of my coop again. I'm thinking clover, since it is a high traffic area, and grass don't do well, but i have been holding off for fear of frost......

talking lows of 50's next week, dare i hope?

Btw, those duckies are adorable! can't have one though.

Nice and warm in Muskegon County. I think maybe 60's? BTW, you can throw grass, or clover, seed anytime. I dug a water line for a house nearby during winter, reseeded my trenchinga day before a snow fall, and now you can't tell I ever dug. The grass took just fine. The seeds just decide when to germinate. The only thing I did was a fine cover of straw from one of my chicken coops.

On the odd chance I make it to Chickenstock with any sort of stuff, trust me, I'll notice one of those horrid things slipped inside.

For the record there are a few things I specifically scan for and "Olive" is one of them, so if you're going to talk about me, you'll all have to come up with a code name. LOL!

ETA: I'm loathe to admit it, but there was actually a chick you posted a picture of a few days ago that I was quite fond of. It was an outdoor picture and there was a brown chick off to the right of the photo. I thought he was rather charming.

Im going to look and find which one it was...and code name: Pimento!

I innocently showed my husband your picture...
