Ok... I hate beetles. Yucky little suckers.

I hope that I have solved the Case of the Escaping Rotten Ruby... I went to Lowes, spent $9.46 on furring strips, 96 feet of furring strips wired to, and run through the bottom of the fence. It was a whole lot cheaper than the tension rods, when I had no way to pull them tight myself. Well anyway, this will give the ground some more time to grow in the fence. LOL. Now, to only hope I solved the problem. especially since The ground was wet, and now I have a muddy butt and muddy knees, and beetles in my hair. Talk about the creapy crawlies.

Why do boys insist on playing in the toilet? What the heck is that about!

Nova, I used to have to mow grass until Olive dumped all her geese on me! (Now I rake poop - but it is pretty amazing how nice they keep the lawn! It was sorely in need of a mow when I picked them up a week and a half ago and now, with the exception of a few small tufty areas, it looks great!)

I'm going to have to rent them back from you or something. Was just realizing today that I'm either going to have to break out the lawn mower or risk losing the puppy next time I take him out to pee.

Nova, I have to keep all bathroom doors shut at all times to keep Katalin out of the sinks and toilets, lol.

SO, today I collected 6 eggs from my 5 mature hens. I didn't think it was possible for a chicken to lay two eggs in one day?! But I checked last night when I locked them up to get any stray late in the day eggs, the boxes were empty and the ladies had already gone to roost.

Just wanted to leave a quick "Hi" while I have a free moment... 2 more days until Silly Chicken's eggs are due to hatch under my broody... I'm getting so nervous! :)

I'm going to try and catch up with this thread, but it's not likely, lol...

How exciting! Take pictures

Good morning Michigan, cool and hazy here with much-needed rain predicted for today.

So my sister in Naperville lost one of her two pet hens last week. Since I am heading down there this weekend, I offered to bring her a replacement. Her daughter called and asked if I would bring a chicken that lays blue eggs, and I said Sure. The only blue-egg layers I have right now are my two older hens, retirees, that lay an egg about every 4-5 days. So I am taking her a little 4 week old polish egger hatched out of Taprocks eggs, she is blue and very sweet with a little topknot. But you know you just can't have one chick, so I am also taking a bantam Cochin pullet. Not going to tell her about that though - Surprise!

How sweet of you.

ACD's rule, BC's drool, lol! We have a friends that breeds BC's so there's a rivalry between us. She has a bumper sticker that says "My Border Collie is smarter than your Honor Student". Maybe but my ACD is, IMHO, better all-sround. All of the herding dogs are a chore. Right now my ACD is learning that ducks are not cattle and biting a duck is not like fetlocks on a cow!

You know what they say "if it's not a Cattle Dog it's only a dog" hehehe

Finally got caught up. My head is still hurting, but this is life today.

I got home from work today, and I see Veena over in the other neighbors yard, the ones who love to watch my chickens, but don't want any eggs... Well anyway, she is over there all by her lonesome. So, I walk on over there with Jace, Chase her around a bit, not much because she just doesn't have it in her. Poor girl. I asked the neighbor for help, and we've put her to rest. I hope that I never have another hen go thru EYP again. So many people say that they can recover from it, and well, I am not going to ever try again with that. If it ever happens with another hen, I am going to just put them down faster.

And to prove the male roosters are something else, Mr. Fluffers decided to show her who was boss while she was doing the head cut off dance...Note: I did not cut off her head. I took her out to the way back in the trees and I shot her with a 22, didn't miss. Stupid effen chicken. There has got to be a way to put a chicken down that puts them DOWN minus the freaky walking dead. I don't think I will ever get over that. I was tempted to shoot his butt too. I mean, why the hell would he come running when I fired the gun? You'd think they'd run the other freaking way... NOPE his dumby butt had to come and investigate, and get one last peice of... well. Stupid effen chicken.

I got the coops cleaned out. Tomorrow I do not have to work my day job, so, I am going to get my direct sowing done. Supposed to be in the upper 70s, high of 80 possible. Sounds nice. And yes, if it rains, I will plant in the rain. Why not. Keep me nice and cool. I should also work on making the door.

Welcome home York. How much you asking for your camper coop? Got a friend down this way who is thinking of getting his own flock, but doesn't want to build a coop. He's physically not capable, but that would be something that could work if its in his budget range. Otherwise, I will be putting my master redneck building skills to work. LOL. Good think I like building. Learn something new each time.

Anyway. Think I am going to hit the sack now. Have a great night all.

My daughter had migrains since the day she was born but we didn't find out tell she was four, she is not 26 and most to the time you wouldn't even know she has them she is so used to them. I hate them they are the worst! I don't know how you do it I just lay down and pray for sleep or for someone to put me out of my misery.

Maybe they should date?

I was wondering the same thing. My other chickens certainly don't like newcomers as much as Waffles does. I think it's a little odd but it also makes me love her more. She is still SO small, about the size of a 3 week old "normal sized" pullet. So her trying to tuck all those chicks under her is not only impossible but hilarious. I'm DYING to know if my 2 baby d'uccles are male or female. They are 2 weeks old now.

Post a picture of your rooster d'uccle baby. I'd like to compare with mine. Pretty please.

Agreed.

The coop is completely sided now and painted...I ended up not doing the obnoxious blue...I know some of you will be happy. Haha We had a bunch of light blue siding from my dad and it was enough to do the entire thing so in the interest of being sick to death of working on that coop I'm thinking light blue looks fabulous! Maybe I'll paint this summer if I really feel like it.

I've also decided to re-purpose a small dog shed my mom has and I'm going to use it for all my bantams. It's going to have a completely secure run, top and all so nothing happens to them. We're going to name it "The Banty Shanty"

Time to go but the kiddos to bed and then wash the dogs, who decided to roll in something humans don't find appeal.

Why do dogs love to do that, my dog loves to roll in anything dead, yucky.

Just tie some sponges to their hands...Cleaning is done!
I love this idea I wish I would have thought of that when my kids were little.

Grosebeaks were in the feeder this morning. Have not seen the hummers yet. Guess based on what your FIL saw I'll break out the feeders. Also, get some oranges out for the oriles. Did see some buebirds, and the best part - we have a pair of pilated woodpeckers nesting in our back 40 where the wetlands are!

I need some help in naming my coop. It's an old hunting shack. Which ever name I pick I will send the name creator a set of chicken aprons. So help me out, here's the picture of it again there will be some changes to it soon I am going to paint it a nice soft shade of blue for the sky the window will have a flower box my daughter and I will be painting some funky chickens all around it. I can't wait for the weather to change up here so I can get my butt outside and work on my yard! This used to be called the "Love Shack", and no I had nothing to do with that name, hehehe

I also saw bluebirds on my way to MBG the last 2 weeks.
For those of you lucky enough to have them near, would anyone want me to make some bluebird houses? Same with wood duck houses or bat houses.

If a few folks want bird houses, let me know. I can make some for Chickenstock. It would give me an incentive to clear out the garage and find my woodshop again.

Paint it grey and call it "Stone Hens".
