Now if I could only figure out why the scovies have suddenly decided to run away from home.

Finally, the babies have arrived. Two girls, 6 lbs 4 oz & 6 lbs 8 oz. Their names are Alice & Julia. I'm waiting for their father to send me pictures and I will reserve commenting on their beauty or lack there of. I learned with my first son that you never tell a new mother exactly what you are thinking when looking at a newborn.

Congrats!

Well I lost my quotes from earlier today, might be able to go back and get them sometime later, but I have a pretty full plate today. Taking the girls over to Howell this weekend, (Hi, Opa!) and I have so not even begun to get ready. Want to get a little work on the coop done yet today, too. Would you agree that it is safe to take down the Winter panels and open everything up now? Need to build a new roost for the younger ones, too, they broke theirs last night, the little chunks.
Still no word on the delivery of the babies.

Most hospitals will give you either 24 or 48 hours. I hope she gets the opportunity to give birth naturally. My labours were 36 and 22 hours long, but my water hadn't broken until fairly late with both.

Yea.

I just got an e-mail from a guy that says he has bees. He will have 5 frame nucs in a couple of weeks.
But, boy howdy, they are expensive.

Hey, how much are you ending up spending on the whole shebang, and are you getting one colony, or more? I want bees.

I have babies! :)

Yay! Congrats!

Congrats Opa - I got in trouble with my hubby when I said our newborn son looked like an ugly little gnome.

But it was true!

I have two chicks out and one pipped so hopefully I end up with a pair.

My DH also entered me in a contest with some group he is part of. This is what arrived for me in the mail today.

It reads "Crazy Chicken Lady" and the second line is "2nd Annual Michigan Predator Hunters Rendezvous" At the top " Made by a Newb with a home brew kit - Drink at your own risk- not responsible if you start feeling the urge to chase rabbits or eat road kill. Ingredients: Ice Mountain bottled water, Mr. Beer Whispering Wheat Weizenbier HME, corn syrup solids, coyote Spit (from Michigan coyotes only) Alcohol content: Some

The babies were delivered naturally so that will be better for both the mother and them. Still waiting for pictures.

Raz, my neighbor is one of the larger bee suppliers in the state. He has hives at orchards everywhere. I pretty sure he just returned from somewhere down south to pick up a truckload of bees as I saw people coming and going constantly a few days ago with boxes of bees. I could check and see if he has any still available.

Juise, at the risk of being nosy, what brings you to Howell?

I think you been talking to RaZ a bit more than is safe... He fondles his chickens, licks his dogs, and now you are posing nekkid with chickens. This is just disturbing...

Did you end up swabbing your big girls too? When do you expect the results back?

We ended up deciding to wait on swabbing the big girls to see what the results are on the little ones. The only reason we would do it all at once is to save on shipping, but at $18 dollars a culture we decided that we would wait to swab the big girls. If the cultures from the littles come back clean, we won't swab the older flock. The quarantine area the newer chickens are on is an area the the older girls were running amok on up until I fenced it off and stuck the new birds in it, so I am assuming that if the big girls had anything, most certainly the littles would have it now and it would show up on their swabs. I hope that made sense... We ought to have results in a week or so. Hopefully sooner.

Ladyfeather - Good luck getting things sorted out and finding a good way to stash your birds.

Farmerboy - You and your cows are crazy.

I better ride the Harley to the beer store and regain my manhood.

Fuzzybutt - I would keep trying, too.

I was told by the nurses that I had a beautiful baby. I said "you have to say that"
They said "No we don't."
I asked what they say to a mom with a not so cute baby and they said "What a baby"
I laughed... Which is not fun to do after a c-sec!!!

I bet they are adorable... I guess I happen to be one of the few crazies that loves how babies look right after the are born...
