Congratulations Opa and Hope!

Welcome Steelchair!

Thanks to all of you for the fun posts (especially Daron and Eeyore!) and the cute chick photos! Nigellas.

Then I ran to the charger to test how strong it is now.

You run too much, Daron. I get tired just reading about it. :weee

Well, I did not ask for all that running, but it does feel nice to keep in shape. ;) I am not a runner, but can run fast in short spurts. Like this- :weee :p

Sounds like the cows had the pigs working for them to plan the escape.

Now that you mention that, I think that you are right! Last week, I found one of the sows out of the pen, and one of the panels on the cow pasture side were pushed in. My sisters opened the gate, and Maisy walked right in like she knew that she was not suppose to be out. we put the panels back, and tied it good, as we were walking back to the gate, I saw a splat looking thing right in the middle of the hog pen, and thought that one of the hogs had diarrhea. But it hit me, its Bella's! She pushed the panel in, so she can say hello to the hogs and maybe discuss the fence wrecking plans. It was her first day out of the pen, and must have been curious about the hogs.

Hello all. I posted in the new members section and was told I should also post here. Well I am a new chicken/duck keeper. I have two pekin ducks and three Rouen ducks. I also have six chickens purchased from TSC. Two brown pullets, two red pullets, and two black sex link. It was recently confirmed that one of my BSL is a Roo. That made my wife upset and me happy. Looking forward to fresh eggs. I am loving this forum. Seems like a bunch of great people. Cheers. Ron

:welcome

Farmerboy: Glad you figured out the fence thing! Get those crabby neighbors off your back about animals that aren't causing any harm.

I plan to talk to them tomorrow. ;) I plan to tell them that no matter what, we are not getting rid of anything this time to appease them. :D

Eeyore- Glad that you got your ducks back!

Oh, our puppy is in heat. I am sure now. She is not acting anything different, but her girly parts are swollen, and I am finding blood spots on the tile floor. She was born last year on July 13. So she is almost 10 months old. We are not planning to breed her at this cycle, but maybe the next cycle. We are not liking her personality much, and we want to breed her to a pure German Shepard since she is half of it, and keep her best pup, and rehome her and the rest of the litter. I am sad at the thought of her leaving as she as taken me as her leader, but like I have mention before she has issues of obeying and some other things. She does a good job warning us of people coming in on our driveway, that is the reason why we got a dog. We want to enforced that trait of guarding with the pure German Shep. To my parents two dogs is way to much, as I would love to have a herding dog too. :(

Good Morning everyone!

Congrats Opa! Double the fun- I hope the babies and Mama are doing well this morning.

Congrats on the chick hatches...and RaZ- you could name the duckies some manly names to compensate for their cuteness!

Farmerboy- I hope you have figured out all the escape routes, and glad they dont escape when you are NOT at home. I think we all got enough exercize by reading your post.

I have my grandson this weekend- he was with his other grandmother and threw a fit that he wanted to be here. So she brought him over. Just prooves that having fun is sometimes more important than keeping a spotless house. Hers is showcase- dont touch that, dont play with that...beautiful..and well, I live in a barn. lol

I packed up all the banties last night and put them in my husbands truck. He is meeting Robin this morning in Jonesville. Thank you again Robin. I couldnt find Toes. He either knew to hide real good in some strange uphigh unusual spot up in the garage- or my daughter had a hand in it. However, in the dark I couldnt find him. Cant find him now either because its light out, and still no Toes. We will see how loud one little banty roo is.

well my husband is gone now.

And who is out walking in the yard?
Toes.

AND there is a blue pullet I didnt see last night either.
Sorry, Robin- but I have another one for you. Coming to Chickenstock? I dunno how I missed her. She is out there strutting her stuff. neener neener neener...

My sizzle wants to go in a stew pot. She is louder this morning than any rooster ever was. Throwing a fit. Pecking at the others. I have no idea why- perhaps she needs to meet her mini-me that is in the brooder. Could be her replacement if she doesnt shut her beak.

Yes, I am coming to Chickenstock. Will look forward to another blue. I love blue colored chickens.

Oh I think the big hens had a wing in it.
I do believe they were hiding banties under their fluff and feathers in the dark. Aiding and abetting.

They act innocent now, but its not like we have a large area for them to be hid.

About the freezing of eggs... You don't freeze them in their shells... Cuz yes, shells will crack when frozen... I forget now who commented on thinking they couldn't freeze eggs cuz the shells may crack...

You can also pickle those eggs.

Good morning Michigan, getting ready to head to indiana, meeting up with Silly chicken on the way to pass on some little sumatra chicks - my they are cute!

Farmerboy, I hope you will reconsider your plan to breed your dog. There are several good reasons why she should be spayed. She is not purebred, and breeding her to a purebred dog will not make her puppies either purebred or more valuable. She has a questionable temperament, and in shepherd type dogs that can be a big problem, and it is very possible she would pass that temperament on to her puppies. And there are so many dogs already in shelters and dog pounds that it is very difficult to find homes for.

Woke this morning, read the posts, decided that 3 am was just too early, went back to bed, Now starting the day again I feel almost ready to face what ever comes my way. Coffee is ready so grab a cup and sit a spell.

I need to get the incubator up and running today. When I built the incubator I incorporated two quart jars of water into the design. I felt that they would help hold the temperature when its opened for candling. Also it might serve as a safety reserve in a temporary power outage. I'll be incubating at least two dozen Welsummer eggs.
