Maybe them Benitez remind them of babies...
Benitez....rare rare rare breed of Chicken..also known as Nova's chickens...
Good morning Michigan, getting ready to head to indiana, meeting up with Silly chicken on the way to pass on some little sumatra chicks - my they are cute!
Farmerboy, I hope you will reconsider your plan to breed your dog. There are several good reasons why she should be spayed. She is not purebred, and breeding her to a purebred dog will not make her puppies either purebred or more valuable. She has a questionable temperament, and in shepherd type dogs that can be a big problem, and it is very possible she would pass that temperament on to her puppies. And there are so many dogs already in shelters and dog pounds that it is very difficult to find homes for.
Gotta agree with you completely...just also gotta add- spaying cuts her chances of mammary cancer by 80 percent. And pyometra- infected uterus...about a thousand dollar surgery.

PICTURES-
I tried to get pictures of my d'uccle crew..and I am known now as the BIG BAD CHICKEN SNATCHER..so, they wouldnt let me get near. Here are bad shots of them: Chickmates shirt in the background..and I forgot I counted, they are seven and a half weeks old.

and SILLYCHICKENS UGGOS-

and my grandson just because..making Aliens..

About the freezing of eggs... You don't freeze them in their shells... Cuz yes, shells will crack when frozen... I forget now who commented on thinking they couldn't freeze eggs cuz the shells may crack...
You can also pickle those eggs.
I forgot about pickling - I've only done the quail eggs not chicken, I wonder how guinea would be?

Busy day with opening day for my son's little league and then 4 -H. Today is bring a chicken. They are working on feather memorization. Hopefully I'll have some time during the day to work on my little coop/tractor. However, two items really need my hubbies assistance. I have the siding to work on that isn't all that important if I get it crooked.

Good morning, I am finally off to bed. As soon as I start another load of laundry. What a day. Wanted to reply to a few things, but I just deleted them because I am just too whipped. Ugh. Going to catch as much sleep as I can squeeze out by now. x_x

Morning all. Congrats Opa, and welcome steelchair.

My first lock down started last night. After candling, I had 6 eggs I felt were good enough to keep going. Of those, I am still unsure of one of them. Guess in a few days I will know. Thinking about doing eggtopsies on the ones I removed. The only way to learn I suppose!

Work continues on the coop. Who wants pictures?

Pictures are always welcome.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. Back from working all night. I now have to watch my daughter until the wife gets out of work a 3:30. No rest for the weary. I would love to see coop design/build pics. As of right now my chicks are in a tractor I built. But once the weather stays nice I am going to start building the big coop.

Yay on the babies, human and feathered!

Congrats, Farmerboy for foiling the escape plan....

Tap, that pic is still wrong in all the right ways, that's awsome that you get this recognition, you do realize though that you sparked off the humor of a bunch of guys, though??! lol. I bet your husband is super proud :)

DH pointed out that "hobbled" was perhaps a misleading word, so i thought i should explain myself a little better:
last year I had fashioned "horse hobbles" so that he could walk fine, he just couldn't run super fast, or spur as easily.
while i have no problem being firm when he needs it , i also feel that in order for him to learn i had to break the pattern, so he could see that there was a different outcome depending on his behavior. Part of breaking the pattern required me to not have to pick up a stick to defend myself, and this allowed me that option. :)
I took them off at night. and I did not leave him unattended either, i knew he was vulnerable to attack. I hate to say it, but the hens appreciated them too, since he couldn't harass them as bad! I swear if chickens could stick out their tongues........

This year is going smooth for me, so my methods do have some merit. i just don't know how to make the next step in associating all this with other people he's not so fond of. I could try hobbling again, but i don't want to unless i have to. Apparently i'm the only idiot in MI to retrain a bird, so i guess i'm on my own. sigh.

Good morning all
Congrats Opa!

Well, We're on our way to Me sick for the Jeep blessing. Pretty full this year with the new baby. Had to strap the buggy to the tire carrier on the tailgate. Kids are having a ball! Autumn can't wait to see the big mud pit. Austin loves motors and wheels, so we r confident he will have a good first time too.

Ooooo! I'm so jealous! I used to camp in this bitty little campground just outside of Mesick! I loved it there. Never woke up with headaches, the air is so much cleaner! I spent a whole summer the last time, but haven't been able to camp since getting the chickens. :(

Rather chilly and grey here this morning. So just sitting and drinking coffee and trying to decide what to do today.
I'm trying the black silk coffee that some of you have mentioned.
Goofy girl dogs are "fighting" over a toilet paper tube. I think the tubes are their favourite toys.
