RaZ, she looks so much like my "Sassy" girl [Sasha] that it brought tears to my eyes.

HH,
They look like sisters.
Except Sasha looks clean and Bella hasn't had a bath since forever.

RaZ, that is a very old picture. I used to shave her down during the summer months. We had to put her down a few [almost 10] years ago because she had seizures every now and then. She finally had one that she could not come out of. She was 12 years old then. Your girl looks so much like her, I just couldn't believe it.

I don't get it. Half of my chicks are around 5 weeks old and I try to handle, touch, visit, and hold feed in my hand for them everyday. I go there and everyone freaks out, running away or flapping but once I am gone I hear them chirping over and over loud enough I can hear them upstairs. Not sure if they like me, tolerate me or just try to appease me.

Some breeds of chickens never really conform to the ideal most people wanting "pet" chickens have. My welsummers are very calm quiet birds but they don't tolerate handling.

Met a nice couple this afternoon. They are planning on getting chickens and decided to stop and see if I would let them look at my setup and answer many questions that have about raising chickens. I told them all about BYC and Chickenstock.

Thank you all for the advice. That sounds like what is wrong with her. Yes Olive I would like the book. Please.
My mom did look up Submissive Urination a few months ago, and tried that training method, but I think it is overwhelming for her where there are 8 plus people giving commands and enforcing it. Would she respond better with just me working with her? She follows me where I go in the house, outside, but not past the coop where the cows are. Right now she is behind me sleeping by the pile of wood slivers that use to be a baby's toy. She is a big chewer!
I talked to my mom about breeding her and what you guys said. What she is most concerned about her getting a C-snip, is that she will attack the vets at the C-snip place. She does not like strangers as you have see, Olive. Remember that she would not stop barking at you, and I had to send her to the house? When she first came here at 10 weeks old, she have never left home, we have not taken her anywhere. The reason we got her is to guard our place, not to accept strangers uninvited.

Sorry Farnerboy, I don't mean to sound mean, I think you have great intentions, but I do not believe that your mom is making a valid excuse for not doing the responsible maintenance with the dog, she needs to be spayed. The vets are fully capable of handling a dog that may bite.. that's what sedation and muzzles are for. Sometimes, a dog will actually behave better without their owners around.

This is for "The Moms" (as my DH likes to call M2M):

At 5 weeks, my chicks did not like me handling them either. The now at 16 weeks will tolerate me stroking them as they come out of the coop, but after that, for most its hands off. And I am ok with that. There are a few that are more pet like. Roger and Leila for example, and a few of the chuckles from the January chicks. They all come for the treats when I whistle, and if I want to know where the heck they all are, I will just go out of doors and make noises. I don't call them with a whistle unless I have treats. OTHERWISE they would expect treats all the time. Oh, they do... But if I whistle, they are really spastic and come running! With all the roosters I have that has hit/hitting maturity, I make sure I walk purposefully through the yard. I do not ever walk directly at them, I do not want them to feel I am being confrontational, nor do I vear if they walk in my path. I remember Olive saying some months ago about not moving out of the way of the chickens, but that they needed to get out of her way, and I did take that bit of advice to heart. I have not had a problem with a confrontational cockerel, and when and if I do, I will give that sucker the boot. They've only got 2 more weeks right now anyway. I am only keeping Ugly Boy of the new chicks right now. AND if either of the 2 purchased silkies are cockerels, I will be keeping them too to breed to Roger and Leila's off spring... The splash is really starting to look like a blue. I will have to get a pic tomorrow... Oh I digress... BUT, I agree with Opa on the roosters.

I didn't do much work on the tractor today. Last night was a long LONG night. Had battery problems with the Jeep. I hope what ever the problem was that I got it rectified, but if not, will have to buy a new one tomorrow. DANG! I did however get the poultry net up on the open roof area. I also made sure to cover the unprotected wood with a tarp. I didn't last night and woke up to a thunderstorm The OSB is not supposed to get wet. Its fine, and I want to keep it that way. The neighbor has shingles he said I can have. Should be enough to cover the roof. The rest of the tractor I am going to paint barn red to match the other coops when I get them painted. If the weather hold off on crap-dom, I will get the hardware cloth stapled into place so it will be ready to be covered with the trim, which I will paint white.

I forgot to close the ducks up last night. I got home this morning and they were UNDER their coop. Silly ducks. I guess though, that really is a safe place. They wouldn't be seen under there. I moved their pen around again. I moved their fencing so they now have a nice fresh patch of weeds, bugs... what ever. When they go in that area of growth, you can't see them. The weeds are that tall. I made sure I didn't fence in any critters with them though. Man were they happy little suckers.

Well anyway... I guess I will go back and finish reading the posts that were posted since I started this post several hours ago.

OMG! Those goslings are so cute! I showed Jace them, and he said he likes them cuz they look green. Then I showed him HENRY charging being protective. LOL.

Which reminds me... I forgot to add that I have moved Roger in with Leila. He was much happier to not be alone. He even investigated the new chicks, found them obnoxious and settled down for a snooze. LOL. I was telling Jace what happened to him, and that he was still alive. He asked if he still had a head... DOH! LOL He wants to know if we can give him a wig. LOL. Kids...
