Raz - I won't say anything more about this, since I tend to tick people off when I post about RTF, but make sure your packet of information includes the new exemptions. The city attorney is likely to know more about it than your judge did.

Raz- sounds like you were very calm and collected. Having documentation on hand proves to be very useful in situations like these because they can see you are serious and not just talking and making excuses. Good job. Now onto the next!

eta- Olive makes a point. Know the law inside and out. Nothing shows better than being able to reply to all questions/rebuttals than being able to counter without hesitation and with marked documentation to provide to prove your point.

Hmmm...do I have you lined up for a couple Uggo babies?

I have my own in the bator right now... I would Love to see showgirls mixed with the modern game hen! That would be awesome!

This is my white Silkie Roo. He was at my son's when they called me and told me he got in a fight with another roo and said he was bleeding some and what should they do ? I told them to put Blu Kote on him. Went over the next morning and this is what I saw. DIL said they didn't have any Blu Kote so she put food coloring on him. LOL
lau.gif
I hope that has the same affect as blukote... Not sure it does...

very creative! He looks like a mixed up parrot... oh maybe that's one of those ground parrots. Who called them that? Nova?

Last night I forgot to close up the pop doors and windows so after dark I went to do it. I could only find 5 of the 7 youngsters in the little coop. I checked on the big coop and there they were tucked in with all the big chickens. I guess they decided they were too big for the little coop now.
Aww... they're not babies anymore.
Good Luck Raz! (Don't worry, I have my own Harley to put my sticky fingers on!) I looked into raising bees as well. Still haven't decided since it's so expensive to get started.

I was doing some research on Aquaponics yesterday and found that interesting. Sure wish I had a green house!

SOMEBODY is in trouble..... Gino decided the hole he made, was handy to open the screen to let him and the other two inside. Looks like a floating head doesn't it? GOOF!
At my moms we had to put a metal screen protector on the bottom half so my beast of a dog could open the screen with out tearing right through it!

I don't know how many times we fixed it before we found that...

I like your new avitar :D
Thanks! After seeing the neaked chicken I couldn't look at mine anymore!

Our Walgreens has that sign as well, unfortunately "shots" is covered behind some other signs so it reads "Shingles Available Everyday"...I crack up everytime I drive by it.
Well, at least you know where to send your enamies
Well, I am not in jail...

After for sitting for 2 hours and listening to assault, drunk driving, shop lifting and drug dealing cases, the judge finally called me up. He read the file, looked up and said, "This is about a chicken?". After the laughter died down, we proceeded.

I was able to ask the ordinance officer how many chickens he saw and he admitted that he didn't see any. But he did have pictures taken by the neighbor that he gave to the judge. Judge Hammer then let me see the photos. They could have been taken anywhere. Just saying...

Anyway, the judge says that there is a fine involved and I would need to "take care of the problem" in the future bcause city ordinance says no to chickens. So I politely said that local ordinance does not supercede state law. I cited MCL 286.473. I said that I had case law and Court of Appeals ruling that chickens are indeed legal to have. Of the stack of documents I had with me, I gave him the MSUE summary document and said that I had a lot more documentation to support my case. So he says that I need to talk to the city attorney and discuss it with him. Then he says that he would have no problem living next to me or anyone who had chickens. He went on to say that several people in Garden City have chickens, ducks, bees and even one guy who has a grand-fathered donkey.

I think the judge seemed pretty reasonable about the whole thing. I will meet with the city attorney for a pre-trial conference on June 26 at 10:00 am. So I can gather even more supporting documentation to present.

In case anyone is interested, the case number is 12GC1470 OM.
Ha! Even the judge thought it was balogna!!! I am sure he would rather deal with important things! But you might have brightened his day a little!

To clarify -- because Olive does not wish for her comments to, in any way shape or form, be construed as support for using RTF to defend backyard flocks -- her only point was to give Raz a tip about recent amendments to the RTF Act that he may want to look into before his pre-trial meeting.

Sooooooorrrrrrrryyyyy, I cant go to chickenstock. I am 15 so I cant drive.

Whaat? You are extremely well "spoken"(you know, typing and all) for your age. I love your chickens even though those long legs freak me out just a bit. Lol

Some what? Roosters? Uggos? Vulture chickens? Juise?

Do you think I should lift the broody? Put ice under her? Give her a fan? Not sure how to change temps with a broody, lol. I have hatched under a hen and in the incubator..no matter, my roo ratio is ridiculous.. and did you see that I impulse bought some d'uccle eggs? They should be here tomorrow.

Its never good if a law firm is worried about something, Randy. Good luck!!!!

Nova-- I want to cross an Uggo with a vulture chicken..imagine what we would create...oh I want to want to want to...however, I am reducing size, not increasing..Im pretty sure I could bring Velociraptors back from extinction...oh, I need to.
Did you put OLIVE in it? She only skims until the name OLIVE hits the radar...

Hmmm...do I have you lined up for a couple Uggo babies?

You're entire post cracked me up. lol

Hey HH - Icelandics are hatching .

Nice. Does sound like you're off to a good start, good luck with the continuing fight.

BackyardFarmMom - I like your new avatar, too, it's cute, but mostly, it's not your previous avatar!

Great, now Olive is speaking in third person, too. Juise doesn't know how much more of this Juise can handle.

Today, Juise is trying to replace one stripped sillcock, and fix another leaking sillcock. Juise is going to need to go out and buy a new washer for the leaky one. Juise is also going to stop by the HFH Restore and see if there is any paint there she can use for her new garden shed. Yes, Juise did finally convince her DH that it would be awesome sauce to have that bus shelter. Juise had particular sway over her DH when she discovered that her DH was planning on spending $80 on the new Diablo game, which costs more than the shed she wanted. Plus, Juise's computer can't run it so it's not fair.

It took 6 guys to get the shed on the trailer, but with an hour of patience, clever usage of a 16 foot lever, a car jack, a couple jack stands, multiple cuts, and a handful of carefully selected and powerful curse words, Juise and her DH did manage to get it off the trailer and in place in the new garden. Juise is super excited about it, and only needs to paint it, add a little trim in a few places, install some shelves and build a door. Juise has lots of work to do.

Juise is also wondering when the deuce those woodchips are going to get here so she can finish her garden. Juise plans on using some of them to mulch the path to the chicken coop, and wonders how long it will stay there.

Juise had to edit because apparently she can't type.
