Oh my... I forgot the Aiden and the yogurt story...

Yesterday, I did the grocery shopping in the morning. I picked up the kids supply of yogurts, smoothies, and go gurts. Aiden LOVES the danimals smoothies. Apparently, he thought his dad's shoes would love some smoothie also. His dad only brought on pair of shoes with him, since he is hoping to not stay to long. SO, anyway, John decides to go and run some errands early, goes to get his tennies on, and see it in there. He said, "Whats in my shoe?" Aiden runs like hell and says, "I didn't do it!" Poured a while smoothie in just one tennis shoe. HAHAHA
And you said "Welcome to my world..."

Today seemed like a good day to move the orphan duckling out to the garage coop. They were a little wigged out and hid under the workbench but I think they will be fine.

They will be able to see the other chickens and ducks through the partition.

Question is, should I put the heat lamp on them? It is supposed to drop to 60 tonight.

Bobbry:

I know that Destiny Farms in Brighton is making their own feed. No idea if they grow it and grind it themselves. Between them and another place in Howell that mix their own I don't know of any other.

Does anyone know if it would be beneficial to buy around 200# of feed at a time for a custom mix? Since numbers are my enemy could anyone tell me how large of a metal can I would need to hold that much? I wanted to mix my own but that proved to be more difficult because somewhere I read I need a mixer/grinder of my own.

Most mills have a 300 lb minimum. Some might have smaller though, so you could check. The problem is, with only thirteen birds (assuming your list in your siggy is up-to-date) your feed is likely to go rancid before you use it and the quality of some of the vitamins and minerals will be compromised even if it doesn't.

ETA: It could however, be beneficial to check with your local mill on their standard mixes. Most make all kinds of feed in-house and you can buy those in as little as 50lb sacks.

How are you doing TC? Haven't seen you over here in a spell.

OLIVE! Would you think that its ok to let my yesmeaties out of the coop in an enclosed area already? I mean, its in the 80's so it is warm enough, have the little moveable pen covered with chic wire too. I am going to work at building them a ranging pen with the table wood. I was reading that some people find their yes meaties taste better when they have full access to the out of doors, and seem happier. I like this approach, and I do have the room to do it, and A LOT of fencing that I can utilise.
