Yikes... It is always sad to learn the lessons the hard way...

Awsome! Wish I had one that big now...

You can always tell when the weather keeps people from doing their chores, the posts increase. Throw in a tragedy like chickens lost to a predator and there is a lot of catching up to do.

I just got caught up after spending the afternoon with BackyardFarmMom. She groomed my 3 dirty, dirty, shaggy dogs.

That baby robin was still here when I came home so I caught it. It has been here in the driveway and shrubs since early this morning and no adult birds are here to take care of it. Poor little thing looks stressed and a bit wobbly. I dug up some worms and added some meal worms and wildgame grumbles. I also added some chick saver to the waterer. I hope I can rehab the little one.
They were good dogs and I was glad to have some work!
You are the new daycare/ rescue center! Someone put the word out that birds can drop their babies off with you!

Here is how I spent my day. I mean how BFM spent her day.

This is 12 YO Majick. His body is now half the size without fur but his head looks too big for his body.

Maggie on the left and Bella on the right.
All 3 dogs got a summer shave haircut.

Nice cool dogs

They were all good! Nervous but good.
I can't wait for you to bring Majick back in the fall to blow his coat. He will be handsom all grown in!
The girls reminded me a lot of my golden mix that passed...

My mom came to pick up my sis and my son and I told her about your girls looking like Crystal and she said that was the first thing she thought of when she saw the hair everywhere.
We had tumbleweed clumps of her hai all over the house.

Momma K and her DH finally came and got the ducks. Yeah! They are very nice people. Their DD is gonna love them. Hope the girls won't be too stressed with the move.

Skatter ditched the chicks again tonight... Well she went up with out them, attacked one of the pullets that was roosting, then the chicks finally figured out how to get up, she came down and sat with them. Silly chicken. Psycho really...

Go RaZ...

need a nap.

Oh gosh, Eeyore, I'm so sorry. :( I've lost birds to predators before and it's so hard to wake up to. If SillyC is ok with it (I'm guessing it is since it was her idea), I have some Faverolles chicks you could have. They are 3 weeks now. Also, my friend also has a young hen (1 year old, New Hampshire Red) that she wants to rehome (free) to a good home with a rooster as the hen is a bit too bossy for her all-female set up. I'll be at chickenstock if you want any of them...

Patience and some of the other girls had laid 10 eggs in the new nest they chose..... What's wrong with the ones in the hen house? Thanks C.G.

The roof is going fine. My trouble is with the computer. I did manage to get one picture into a post. .. Lost that whole shebang though when attempting to add more picts. Oh well, another time.

Eeyore, sorry about your chickens. It's tough losing them. I have lost chickens to a coon and a skunk. In the case of the skunk, I had to follow the feather trail and the lost d'uccle was headless as yours was. It's a possible predator if you've been smelling anything skunk-y in your area lately. Otherwise, I would most likely think coon and if it is, it will most likely be back.

Bianca- you have a very nice coop

Thank you. I was wondering if it was skunk but I have neither seen nor smelled any skunk around in the year I've lived here. I HAVE seen coons. As for it being back - I sincerely hope it is and that it likes canned cat food.

Thank you so much - and SillyC (somehow this quote got missed in my other post). I actually think the faverolles might be a little too sweet and docile for my free range set up. But I might take that NH Red. She can bully my roos until they're big enough to bully back (assuming that she's not so mean that they won't grow up.)
