Inviting family or friends is a little different than posting on CL or putting flyers up. I don't think anyone would have a problem with anyone inviting family or friends to our get together.

I want to point something out to my fellow CS attendees. You say you don't want just anyone coming. Well inviting people is one of the ways to bring people into our forum family. I'm sure you all met the family who came with the adorable little potbellied pig? Well I invited them. I stopped by thier house because they are only 1 mile from me and I drive by it daily to go to work and noticed they had chickens. (i wasn't going to post this part) I also used the fact that thier potbellied pig was in the road one day to stop by and drop off a flyer...about 2 weeks after giving them that flyer thier pig ran out in front of my truck and I killed her and also destroyed thier mailbox and almost my truck trying to avoid her. (there's the reason they have a new baby pig) I talked with them about how much fun CS is and how they would find some wonderful people and wonderful birds. They seemed to have had a wonderful time and took home some awesome new birds. I agree that it's wrong for someone to come waltzing in but I see nothing wrong with sharing this event with people who may need just a little push to become completely obsessed with poultry like the rest of us.

I agree we should share our event with everyone, but asking someone personally is quite different than an "open" invitation via Craigslist. We are our best advertisement. Tell you family, friends, and neighbors; well maybe not Raz's neighbors, or do what I often do when at a feed store and run into someone buying chicken feed, invite them to join BYC.

I agree we should share our event with everyone, but asking someone personally is quite different than an "open" invitation via Craigslist. We are our best advertisement. Tell you family, friends, and neighbors; well maybe not Raz's neighbors, or do what I often do when at a feed store and run into someone buying chicken feed, invite them to join BYC.

Yes, I don't really think CL is the best place to advertise or at the local feed store by posting it...but I invited a handful of people who had poultry or were interested in poultry and told them about our group on here. And ya, Raz can keep his crazy neighbors!

Just remember when you are all planning a fall Chickenstock is that SOME of us are very SOUTH...lol.

I love our Chickenstock- I think that maybe we could try to pull off various get togethers,, but to me, part of what makes Chickenstock so special is that we have to wait all year for it- like Christmas, chicken-style... it makes it worth the drive, and I would sure hate for someone to say, "well- I went to the one in September, so I am going to miss the one in June"...

Fall is tough for me to attend because the kid*s* have football games to march at, or practice, or school related stuff. It wont be forever, four more years and then the youngest should graduate. That said, it would depend on finances, distance, critter-sitter ability, andturkey season- one day, my hubby has to actually see one and actually shoot it, DEER season....pre deer season, and 'gotta get ready for predeer hunting season' times that my husband is gone. He kind of owns fall in this house. Also I have a stepdaughter getting married this September- as redneck shindig as she is planning, it is still going to cost us.
All that aside, doesnt mean I cant enjoy other people getting together from the sidelines here- an observer and wishing I could attend.

OLIVE- shush, I think you changed the date on my post just to make me feel stuck in Groundhog day or something. lol

DID ONE OF YOU SEND ME A PM asking me when Uggos were hatched? Just in case I forgot to answer- it was April ninth. For real.

One more thing on the Chickenstock- I love that it is our 'group' that attends, and strangers are few...there are some that show up that dont belong to BYC and dont seem overly chatty, just lookin for a live meal to carry out. Others I ran into this time were a very nice family. I seemed to have a pullet that many people wanted this year- however she was to go to Robin. This family talked to us for a long time, were not part of BYC, sure would like to have them join us here- I finally sent them over to Robin to see if she wanted to sell the pullet. Those are friends we just havent met yet.
One idea is that we could take the address off our flyer- and put BYC.COM on it instead. That way, they can join our group and find out its a pot-luck/prize table type scenario- and we can all make new friends to add to our circle.

Poor you poor pig...those were very nice people!!!!! My kids sat there holding their pig all day- and begging me for their rabbit!!!

they had a son named Robin? Right? Someone has a son named Robin- who my kid is head over heels for and has texted a hundred times since then!


JOHN- Clover is doing very well. She is indeed a sweet rabbit! AND...let the record show, "I told you you were going to get that bunny! Trix is a great name!"

Since there are only 3 of us yoopers (counting our newest recruit) and we are spread over about 250 miles, I think a chickenstock up here would be pretty sparse in terms of attendees.

I met a nice lady at TSC in spring and told her about BYC, she joined but has never posted. She has sent a couple of PMs but that is is. I have also talked about BYC to some of the locals who contacted me about the chicken ordinance. They even mentioned BYC in the news article.

On the other hand, I've heard a few tales of ordinance officials trolling the threads looking for violators. I can't say that is actually true. It wouldn't surprise me though.

Yep, it would be. We are few and far between. I am thinking next year of trying to get to chickenstock. If there is a place to camp nearby, that would make it do-able, since I'd have to stay overnight.

That is, if I can find someone I trust to watch the critters. I am incredibly anal about how my fowl and goats are cared for. Probably going away for a few days would cause me way more anxiety than it would for them. I just worry, my fear is something bad will happen to my animals while I am gone.
