Mom... The silkies refuse to leave the meat birds... They stay with them, eat with them, preen with them... Roger on the other hand, has abandoned them to their own devices... OMG! Its kinda funny actually. LOL
Prayers for your sister and I hope you figure out what is making your birds ill. Bad bag of feed?

The silkies KNOW meaties...remember, they were here with TWO NOTmeaties..those are friends, not food, lol.

Thank you for the prayers and well wishes for my sisters recovery. Family is coming up from Sturgis and Burr Oak to be here while she is in. Seems the only time we get together is when there is a wedding, a funeral, or a serious surgery/illness/what not. Maybe I will wash the kitchen floor.

Man... Am I tired! I added another round of heavy fencing to the bottom of the summer coop. There is now 3 layer of fencing, and I got the trim on to hold the newest layer of fencing. Why am I so paranoid now? Well, that darn coon is making its rounds again. It tried getting in the coops again. The fencing that I had originally put on was like the fencing that I had around the meaties pen. Well, this monster coon went over that fence and bent it up so much that I figure its a biggen, and am paranoid that if it really tried, it could eventually get through it on the summer coop. The inside fencing on the summer coop isn't as strong. SO, I now have that heavy as heck fencing on it, then 2x4 trim over top of that that I now have to paint as well. I am in the market for cinder blocks, or pavers to put all the way around the outside of the summer coop as well to prevent digging. I really feel it is secure now, and I am pretty certain a fox or a coon would have a hard time digging through the roots of the trees that the coop sits under, a location I picked for just that reason, roots and shade... BUT since this sucker has proven to be smarter than the average Nova, I am not taking chances with that also. Its that, or I put in a floor.... Maybe I will put in a floor. I'd take 2 peices of osb flooring and a few 2x4s for support.... HMMMM... Nope thats not going to work, then I'd have to floor the under run too... Well anyway.. I need a pill.

I think Vanna may have an egg problem instead. She pooped out egg yolk tonight. So this time i felt her belly area, and it feels swollen and hot. Not like there is an egg, but just like Veena. I got her from the same breeder last year. Still, put her in confinement anyway just to be sure. What is the likelihood that I can have to wyandottes both develop internal laying and possible EYP? How annoying.

I do believe Mr. Fluffers is molting. He has that white down feathers sticking out from all over him, and his tail feathers are all over the yard, and his hackles are down right balding old man looking. LOL. He is starting to look pathetic. Poor boy. LOL. What do I expect, he is 3.

RaZ... Do you have a lawyer friend to help you with this crap? I can't believe you are going through to a jury trial... That is just total craziness.

Daron, I hope your hard work pays and you have no MG in this next flock. We are all crossing our fingers for you.

I put the silkies in the chuckles coop with Criptoe.. I just do not trust that tractor... Not with this freaking coon.

My father's dog had her pride terribly wounded by a mother hen today!

I was absentmindedly walking her on the property. Well, she dove into some tall grass sniffing excitedly, and next thing I hear is a chicken screaming! I thought she'd grabbed a chicken, so I rushed to the rescue. In reality, I should have been rescuing the dog, who came streaking out of the grass with her tail between her legs, and a chicken hot on her trail! Molly disturbed my black copper marans and her two week old chicks, and was getting the tar knocked out of her by the angry hen.

Thankfully, no dogs or chickens were actually harmed, and the dog learned not to trifle with a hen and chicks.

Raz, hope your ordeal ends soon and ends well.

Nova, hope they can finally fix your sister up right. Sorry to hear about your sick chickens too.
This ordeal is going to go a long way, from what I saw today. In reviewing the court papers, I have gone from a civil infraction to a criminal offense which may entail jail time. I have graduated from a $20 fine to 93 days in jail for my keeping of chickens. What is not clear is if it it for the entire flock or for each bird.

Heck, I could be in jail for 3 or 4 years.

What astounds me is that all that money being spent could be used to help someone who is ill, like Nova's sister.

I feel bad that our government has funds to prosecute (persecute) back yard poultry while people who need help can't get it because there are no funds available.

I apologize for being a criminal in this whacked out society.

LOL! My cat learned not to get to close to the girls when I had all them cockerels. They took after her so bad that she didn't come home for 4 days! My mom was so worried that she got hit by a car, or the cockerels hurt her so bad she died in the woods. LOL. That cat... She's a funny thing, but she won't go near roosters. LOL
