Kimmie.... I did meet you as you were buying your last couple of brids heading for your car.

Wish I had been able to get my hands on one of those Duke traps. Thought we were like Fort Knox and had another casualty the other night. We've got a big one that keeps springing the trap. So far though the score is coon--7 Chickens 18 (with a litte help for their team.)

For all of you with we'll say nasty neighbors makes me thankful I've got good ones. I might be able to loan you one (a neighbor) he's a big guy with a big cannon! Good luck with all the neighbor problems!

there is a website where you can order the duke traps... I am considering ordering another one and putting it on the other side of the back yard, kinda in between where my birds are at and where Carls are at.

2.5 more weeks for the meat birds. Gonna kinda sorta miss those bowling balls... Until dinner... HEHE

OK since it's going to be hot tomorrow why don't we all share our little tricks and tips on how to keep the girls cool in the sweltering heat?

I am going to go out and get a couple of watermelons for the girls. My DH suggested I cut them up into huge quarters and freeze them. That way they can thaw slowly (or less rapidly) in the heat tomorrow. I can just picture the girls sticking thier entire heads into the frozen water melons. LOL

Also, I'll throw some ice in their waterer so the water remains fairly cool during the day

...and I might add some vitamens to their water to keep 'em peppy.

any other suggestions?

That was a great video.

My second SLW just tried out his crow this afternoon. There hasn't been much volume or output yet but I'm sure that will change.

They need to go to freezer camp now. They are 19 weeks old and pretty good size. The thing is, I've never processed a chicken before. I'd like to see if someone could show me how to do it. In exchange, I'll give you one of the birds.

The alternative is if someone wants to rehome them. They are quite pretty roos.
