I actually hang the milk jugs for over night in the meaties coop... They create so much heat! They then settle under neath it... It the big coop, I hang them from the rafters (?) and the girls do the same, congregate nearer to them at night.

Sister Update....

The surgery went very well. They are pretty certain that this round y procedure they did will do the trick and fix it up good. They'll know in a few days for sure, but are very optimistic. The only problems that would occur to make it not a success is if the ducts dilate/enlarge and ruin/tear the sutures. If the procedure fails, they'll have to open her back up, cut off nearly half the liver in order to remove the ducts. They can't just cut the ducts and close them off because of how they are wrapped/intertwined... SO, lets pray that this works or more drastic measures will have to be taken.

Yay for the sister!

I obviously missed something this afternoon.... moderator, stalking,...?
Anywho, In preperation for the heat i watered my garden, chicken yard, and flowers pretty good. That's about all i do for heat, my chicken yard is set into the woods so it only gets a few hours of heat. The birds like to go under the camper and burrow into the sand. I made sure to water the sand too, since they were digging to china to find the damp sand at this point, lol.

Well 1muttsfan nailed it. I had a male Northern Harrier back for round three tonight. The problem for him is that I moved all the bantams and they are in the covered run right now so he tried to grab a 4 month old Polishegger. We were all outside when the squawking started. Very interesting to see what the rest of the flock does. Birds everywhere and roosters tearing around. It only had her for a minute or so, seemed longer with all the noise. Feathers everywhere but she managed to only lose a chunk of skin about the size of a dime on her back. I sprayed her down with Vetericyn. I'm not sure you can do more. It was a big hawk so I'm sure it just carried the bantams off which was why there were no feathers. It was in the same area that they were hanging out.

Nova - great job on the critter catching and disposing. Also glad to hear better news for your sister.

Nova......Prayers for your sister.

Raz....... Hope everything works out well!

Kimmie.... I did meet you as you were buying your last couple of brids heading for your car.

Wish I had been able to get my hands on one of those Duke traps. Thought we were like Fort Knox and had another casualty the other night. We've got a big one that keeps springing the trap. So far though the score is coon--7 Chickens 18 (with a litte help for their team.)

For all of you with we'll say nasty neighbors makes me thankful I've got good ones. I might be able to loan you one (a neighbor) he's a big guy with a big cannon! Good luck with all the neighbor problems!
Hi Rusty! Can you refresh this old ladies memory?

I think Farmerboy should take his longcrower over to Raz for a visit. a good 10min crow should make them happy

I've put frozen milk & liter bottles in the pen and I don't think the chickens even go near them.....at least I haven't seen them laying around them.

Sorry to hear about your rabbit.

I think they are everywhere right now. Saw one by my place tonight scoping the fields. Luckly the chickens were already in the pen working their way into the coop for the night.

Nova-

thats good news for your sister! Hope she heals up good now.

HEAT-

I just bought four bags of ice. The rabbits have found the crawlspace- where I cannot reach em, it feels like air conditioning under there, though, so I am jealous.

I DO worry about my NotMeatie girl though, so I turn the sprinkler on mist and I will let it run over part of their yard all day long. I am going to put the ice in the shade- probably set it on top of the rabbit hutches..in them? Not sure yet- not sure the bunnies will utilize them, but they are there if they want them. Notmeatie can sit under a hutch and let the cooler air/water come down to her.
My parrot and tortoise are both African species, and think we worry too much. They love this weather. The winter- not so much.
