Uchytil - Have a good visit, and do you mean you use the Poultry Protector to help prevent, or to treat established infestations? I don't know if yours do or not, but ours free range, so they don't spend a whole lot of time in coop or run. I have no idea how much that effects the viability of a treatment like Poultry Protector, but it seems like it would hamper things.

Also, that was the first treatment after DE that I was asking about, and I didn't get any good responses about it, I don't think. Where were you then?

Well it finally happened. A cat was reaching through the wire after my month old meaties . One minor leg gash and one very sereous back of the neck gash. The leg injured bird got cleaned up and bandaged and is back with the flock. The other is in a carrier with a towel. If it makes it through the night I will be amazed. I guess I'll just go ahead and butcher it out when daylight comes. Blasted cat.

Morning All,
What a beautiful morning here! Wish I didn't have to go into work. My mini vacation was so nice. It was a great relief to get a break from that heat and the everyday routine. My son's friend did a great job tending to the flock! Haven't paid him yet cause the day we came home he headed north for the week.

My goodness....where has Opa been? Hope he's not ill or anything serious going on.

Sorry to hear about the losses and the troubles with predators/pests some of you are having.

Rbrahmer.....what's the coon count? Last time I recall you were up to 39!

Oh yeah, one more question about the Ivermectin, sorry. I think someone said something about under the wings? Should I do a drop or two on the back of the neck, then a drop under each wing?
I use Ivermectin for mites. I put 4 drops on large chickens/guinea, 3 on standard and 2 on bantam and 1 on chicks. I don't put on the neck but back by the tail. I can get through the feathers better to the skin there.

I was sitting here at the computer and the dog starts having a fit at the back slider. A young deer, no spots but very small was running in the back field. No mom just him. Then he turned and ran straight up to the house to the back door turned and went around the house to the front and then down the driveway. I bet the dumb coyotes were chasing it. Hopefully it finds a place to hide and doesn't run into the dogs across the road.

Two Uggos have hatched. I think that is going to be it. Since they survived the extreme temperatures/cooking, they are probably roos. One was from the tx egg and the other from the #2 egg.
I dont think either have black skin.

One is a giant. Took up the whole egg.

I miss Sam's posts. he has posted on the OPA'S Place thread in random ramblings. I hope that he returns to this thread soon.

ETA:
from Dipsy's earlier description...
"Usually, if any Tx chicks hatch with a yellow head-spot, they will be blue barred and male."

The chick that came from the Tx egg....you guessed it, has a yellow spot.

I lost track but I just caught another one the other morning bare handed. A young one was in one of my pens I only use during the day and he really thought he was going to get away from me. He started climbing the fence so I grabbed the little sucker and threw it in a pet carrier !!! Then took it away.

I swear, there must be a cave hidden by you and they are mass producing at top speed! Hopefully your are nearing the end of the production line.

FYI add to your vet list. Companion Animal in Shelby Mi will treat chickens. The vet there keeps chickens herself and is more than happy to do fecl/parasite test without having to take the bird in.
Thank you! I will add that to the list! How awesome that they will check a stool/poop sample without us having to bring the chicken in.
Our vet has been able to help me many times with a stool sample and a description of symptoms.
