WOW! You sure do like ducks, Miss Kate in WA! The funny thing, I liked the ducks too. I just didn't like the work that I had to put into their care when I couldn't get people to buy their eggs. SO... If I had been able to sell their eggs on a more continuous basis, they'd still be in the back yard in their pool boat.

Speaking of which, I still have said pool boat, and if anyone would like it...

Not me, it's himself's project. Actually though, I have to say I adore duck breast! (Hmmm, the ducks are far less work than we put into the chickens?!?!? That's a puzzlement)

Me too. I have a few chickens because the sale of the eggs covers some of the feed costs for the Ducks. BUT, ducks are my faves! Mixed flock of Muscovies, Welsh Harlequins and I think perhaps a Khaki Campbell (and six chickens; getting 3 more today)

Has anyone noticed that the blueberries this year are early and tasteless?
I bought blueberries from 2 different farms. One was organic and one was not.
The berries were smaller than I remember from the last couple years and they did not have much flavor.
Has anyone found good berries?

My raspberries were a lost cause this year. Very few and mostly stunted. I'm blaming the drought.

Is anyone aware of somewhere I can send 4-6 really nice old ducks and a handful of really nice hens with a lot of their feathers missing for a retirement home? The hens were missing most of their feathers when I took them in but they're super nice. The ducks are...spoiled rotten lol

I was wondering if some of you experienced chicken keepers can help with my new problem.

My chickens were all going into the coop at night no problem, every night. UNTIL the 4th. The fireworks were so loud that my nieghbors said they couldn't even have a conversation in their home for about 2 hours. (I was out town in an area where fireworks are illegal) Well after that night 3 of the chickens will no longer go inside the coop. They huddle at the top of the stairs and will not go in. For the last several nights I've had to physcially put them in and then on to the roosts.

My concern is that we are supposed to go out of town soon and I can't ask the neighbor to do that every night for me (put them in) as I already told him he just has to close it and open it in the morning.

Any suggestions?

They are not to bad here.

Just got through cleaning and moving the meat coop into the run. Cleaned the whole meat pen as well. Going to fence it backup, plant grass so it'll be ready in late August for another round of birds. I also tipped the Bates Motel on its end. Going to put a 10 inch wide board all around the bottom and fence as well to make it predator proof from bottom digging. Also going to put different hinges on the swing door, cut it to fit so it sits inside the triangle and opens from the top to drop down. Figure then nothing can get in that way either with a hasp and spring lock and clip. I hope the renovations will enable me to change its name to something less murderous.

Well time to clean myself up. Nothing like coop and pen cleaning to make a girl need a bath. Then its off to the other work.
