Like I said before, it is a matter of semantics. If it was that simple and logical, I don't think that I would be in the situation that I'm in. The local code says that canaries are acceptable fowl but nothing else applies.

When I posited that chickens are more common "pets" than canaries is when I POed the prosecutor.
I'm glad that I did not mention "pet rocks".

Mine are pets- however, mine are illegal so I dont know if I would be credible to use in your poll.

It's up to us what we do between flights.

Something the prosecutor said today... Basically that no one anywhere has a pet chicken.

How many people consider their chickens to be pets? I'm going to compile a list.

You can include me in that list. While not all of my chickens would be considered pets to me, there is at least one that will have a home here with me for as long as she lives. It is her personality that has earned her that category. I compare the chickens to dogs or any other animal. There are some that have jobs, ie, police dogs, assistive dogs, watch dogs, search dogs, etc. They can also be pets. Or, they can be both. It all depends on the value we place on them.

WOW that's uncalled for!!! Hey, just move here! Not only could you have all the critters you want but if anyone harrasses you you'd have 30 people to back you up! lol

X2 on that!!! What is happening to you and your mom is uncalled for! I have some "family" over that way if you need them taken care of. Nothing will be able to dig up the carcasses either.
That's one of the reasons I moved out of the city. Controling nosey busybodies who can't keep their noses in their own back yard and who won't be happy until everyone is as miserable as they are!

On a lighter note, there's a farm house that needs a bit of elbow grease down the road. It sits on 12 acres and they are asking 79,900... you can keep all the critters you want!

While I don't consider my chickens to be pets and know many folks that do. For a prosecutor to say that no one keeps chickens for pets is ludicrous. How would he explain the success of a company called "My Pet Chicken"?

I agree, and also you should bring up "chicken diapers" LOL I would contact the company and see if they would be willing to share some of thier information on sales with you to show how many people have them as pets in thier homes!

My mother kept one of those for yrs. it had a pic of my youngest brother on it

Good idea, why else would you put diapers on a chicken if it is not a pet?

Took my husband back to the ER yesterday at 8pm. His right leg is swollen from the knee down, and red. His left foot still has stitches in it- his appointment is today to recheck it again...

Exactly what I was thinking Opa. As for me, most of my chickens I would consider livestock except my bantams....they are definitely pets.

The day after I washed my car the fuel pump went out, turned out it and the filler neck needed replacing, then less than 3 weeks later, after I discovered the gas tank now leaked I'm told the engine cradle is rotted and my car is unsafe to drive. I now have a 2000 pound lawn ornament. So, I ain't washing the beat up nasty truck I drive now 'cause it's all I got.

Everyone needs to wash their car! Doesn't it usually rain after you get the car washed?

This morning I moved my last 22 chickens from the garage brooder into the hutch brooder outside with the guineas. They're in one half, the chickens in the other. You'd think they'd be grateful to have bigger digs and stuff to look at and a nice breeze. But noooo, one of the suckers had to stab my finger with their stupid claw. I think it was one of those "gentle" Dominique types. Ungrateful wretches!

No rain here yesterday, it all slid by underneath us. Cooler today though, very refreshing.
