Congrats on that egg~!!!We got our first egg today! The girls are 17 weeks old. I'm pretty sure it's our Isa Brown. I hadn't taken the mesh off the nest boxes yet and my DH found it on the coop floor in a corner. When we took off the mesh the Isa jumped up and started scratching all around in the box and snuggled right down. Huh, didn't expect that little treat today!
Im sorry the others ran right over you and didnt see your post! Welcome from Michigan! We finally have a break from that horrid heat and most of us got some rain- not all of us, but most of us. What part of Michigan do your folks live in?How are all your birds doing up there in all this heat?
I spoke to my parents in Jasper and they said it has been 105* out on the farm. That isn't uncommon in Oklahoma but I don't remember it being that warm in the Summer in MI when I lived there. I sometimes wonder if Oklahoma is just too hot for Cochins but I have been watching them closely, misting the tops of their shade-cloth pen covers, chicken "gatorade", ice bottles in their water and frozen gallons by the broodies as well by the LFs.Last Summer I lost 5. I am really hoping this year is better. I imagine Michigan birds aren't as used to the heat? Hope you all are surviving and that the heat breaks and that you (and we) get some rain.![]()

It's 65 degrees here and a welcome relief from the 100 degrees of late. Could still use a decent rain. The weather here says it is 48 degrees this morning....and I LOVE IT! I love it cool and comfortable outside.
I'm probably too far from you (in Richmond, about a half hour south of Port Huron), but I've got just what you're looking for: Muskovy ducklings about 2 weeks old and I have lots of guinea keets (pearls AND lavendar) that range from a week old to about 2 1/2 months old.
82g seems massive compared to this little egg! I weighed it on my cruddy kitchen scale which isn't digital so I have to guesstimate... It looks about 12g.Congratulations. It's always exciting to have a hen lay her first egg. My new ISA browns didn't lay until 20 weeks, but I think all 3 are laying now. They are a darker brown than my other hens. They are also getting bigger. I had a whopper today that weighed 82 grams. It's the size of a tennis ball.![]()
