Last evening, my NOTmeaty hen was under the butterfly bush making her usual panting/gasping sounds- which I attribute to being obese yet active- only this time, she was purple. It had just started to rain, and all the chickens took cover under the various bushes.
I made a mental note "this doesnt look good" and then I retreated out of the rain.

Last night she put herself to bed. this morning I found her dead. Very dead- I dont believe she made it much past putting herself under the lean-to. She was on her back, feet up. Im sad for her, but she lived out her life without being butchered and having a good chicken life, even if it was short. I feel bad for my white Uggo. She was her "birds of a feather" that flock together. They slept together, foraged together, hung out together, and got picked on by Mama Hen and the d'uccles together. Now she seems lost. She lost her buddy. :(

I'm so sorry Kim!

Arent true araucanas supposed to die while hatching ? Then... How do they get out...
Araucana and Ameracauna are different. Ameracauna (Easter Eggers) lay colored (typically blue-green) eggs and have beards and muffs.

With Araucana, if you have two parents both with the tufted gene, then yes, you can have some (about 25%) die in shell. The tufted gene is lethal. Not all of the chicks are hatched with the tufts, some are hatched with tails (though by standards should not have here in the US). A much more difficult breed.

Expecting my first Araucana chicks next week.

Someone in my flock has white watery poo!!! This is the first time I have seen it and the poo chart isn't clear... is it cocci? Is it from the hen that drank too much water?

They are on medicated feed...

No idea what white water poo means but it's not Cocci. Cocci is blood in the stool and lots of it. You don't have to worry about it when they are on medicated feed.

M2M sorry you lost your girl.

My new birds and those I moved around seem to be doing ok. I just have way too many bantam roos right now and they are instigating a lot of problems.

Raz if it will help your chickens as pets issue (missed what you said but read a reply) I have pictures of Snowball in her harness. I defy anyone to take a look at a silkie on harness and not be convinced they are pets. I am also going to work this fall on having her classified as a therapy bird.

Stressful day - our niece who hasn't been here for 3 months "Because she's 18 and doesn't have to be!" is coming back to live here. She has no job, no plans and thinks we are going to be driving her around. I told her if she didn't get a job she would become our maid and do all the household work. Her response was "I'm no one's maid I don't pick up after people."

I'll take prayers!

Mrs.Haggie - you and your ducks are going to be a lot happier when you get them outdoors!

Be sure to have them in a very secure pen so that no predator (dog, cat, hawk/owl, raccoon can eat them).

But trust me, you will and the ducks will both love it when they can have a small swimming pool and dirt/grass ect..

It has taken me most of the morning to get thru the past few days posts - nearly 300. Stormed so hard the other night, had so much flooding down at the barn, that the horses had standing water in their stalls. Big problem, with lots of work and backache, all by myself, finally was corrected late yesterday afternoon. Storms also messed up our internet service. They have been out twice to fix. Seems to be back, so long as no more storms at least. Loved the rain, needed it immensely, but storms like that downpour did quite some damage. Hope you all received some of the much needed rain, without the damage.
