I put the birds away last night having never heard a crow from Mr. F all day. This morning when he did not come out again, I was worried. I looked in he was not there, I looked under, and there he was, standing up! Sweet. I went to get some feed for the tinies and ERRRR-RRRR-RRRRRARRRRRR! Loud and clear. It is pretty messed up when a crow can nearly bring you to tears.

YAAAAA

Okay, dunno who posted it, or even on this thread so I'm going to copy and post it in a lot of places.

Someone posted a recipe for batter - so I tried it on pre-cooked duck legs. It was so totally wonderful I had to come on and tell everyone. Himself is wondering how I can outdo tonight's dinner tomorrow. I'm not sure either!

Whoever posted, thank you, it's fabulous!

That would be me, glad you liked it but please don't post it everywhere!!! I am working on a cookbook, and though i know this is a public site i like to post a few now and then just for my peeps. Which amount of salt did you use, and did you use the original with 3/4 cups liquids, or the adapted one i did last with the whole cups? My poor DH was just glad that the testing was over for that entry; nothing worse than gloppy fried food! lol.

Ok, I have a question for everyone. Hope someone can help me with it. How do I elimanate mice from my young chickens house without hurting my young ones ? They are in there real bad and I can't stand it !!!! Anyone have any answers ?

The snakes around here take care of our mice. Of you want I can catch a couple for you... lol. We also use sticky traps and mouse bait away from the coops. We haven't had mice in the coop at all.

We use the covered d-Con mouse traps, or the ones with pellets inside. Works GREAT!!!

How can they forage like chickens ? Won't they run away or fly away ? I am so excited on getting them. They are just beautiful quail. My friend from Ohio, LC Fancy is bringing them for me.
well by forage I meant-

an entire fenced area of half my yard. Yes they will fly away if it is not covered. Yes they will fly to the top of the neighbors houses

Yes a group of them will be spotted walking down the side street five blocks away...

BUT, once their wings are clipped, they wont fly over a six foot fence. They will however, hide in various places of vegetation making their quail noises (the rooster crow is very annoying) and you wont know from which bush it is coming from....

I use mousetraps, but they are inside a rabbit cage that the birds can't get into- but the mice can. All i have to do then is open the door to the cage in the mornings, and dispose of the bodies! Maybe you could rig up a similar system, build a "mouse box" with a hole and a hinged door............? Probably depends on how young your little ones are, if they can still fit into itty-bitty spaces themselves!
