She told me that turkey start had the right amount of protien for them... As chicks and adults... She has raised them for many years. I didn't have any problems and the female laid an egg a day/ everyother day... until my cat ate her. I was soooo mad!!!
Beauty is truely in the eye of the beholder then :lau

I will go to the elevator and get turkey starter then. Thanks

Where is that?

Should say, it's Plucky Duck, from tiny toons. Has a fascination with all things that go up and down, and water in the toilet going down the hole and coming back up... Used to be my favorite cartoon when I was a teen. Go figure.

Anyway, I did some looking in on the Praziquantel, They do use it for humans in the United states actually, and in doses much stronger than what I gave the chickens. It says that you can not nurse for 3 days after taking it... SO, I am going to chuck the last weeks worth of eggs, and go ahead and start with the rest. The brand name in the US is Biltricide, and yes, its used for all those lovely worms that can go into the blood stream and tape worms. SO, Hopefully if there were a capillary worm issue with my birds, and that is why I didn't find anything in Belles impromptu dissection. Nothing like something that is tantamount to heart worms in chickens. Well anyway... That's what I am going to do. SO, several dozen eggs go to the landfill. Oh well. LOL. Not going to risk it. My mom takes meds that it would interfere with and she would not remember which was which even if I did mark them.

It seems like there's been a lot of animal loss here in the last month.  I'm new to the game.  Is this rate of loss kind of constant, or is it unusual?  I'm sorry for those who unexpectedly have illness or attack in their flock.

I had to cull all that I had to a Mycoplasma G disease last spring. I am starting over with new clean stock. I pray that it will not happen again.

And now the whole reason I logged in...

My muscovies are pipping!! They are from my pair that I had to cull. I had treated the eggs before incubating them. But since ducklings are brother/sisters, and is not able to breed them, unless someone have Muscovy eggs that I can get to hatch myself to start a small flock.

Yesterday I managed to unload four extra cockerels at a local "fur and feather' swap. Didn't come home with anything new. My goal was to not come back with the boys, and thankfully it was a success! I also sold a pair of embden geese, so I have one gander left. He is kind of lonely, but the ducks are keeping him company. Actually, I am glad he is the only goose now, since he sticks with the ducks and they keep out of the way.

Nervous for this Wednesday. I have an interview with the TSA for a job at the local airport. Trying to get a job with them is like a march through a muskeg. BUT the fact I got called up and scheduled for an interview means there is a little glimmer of hope! Having applied to them over a year ago, hopefully actual employment isn't too far off, it I do well at the interview.
