We have our 6 hens for about a year and they have consistently been laying 5 -6 eggs daily. Yesterday we had these five eggs with one being a tiny egg with no yolk. Today they are back to 6 normal eggs. What causes a tiny egg?

A fairy egg as you see, is created when a foreign object (usually a piece of tissue) is mistaken as a yolk, and triggers the egg laying system to form a shell-and-all around it. The result is a yolkless tiny egg of which is no reason for concern and is usually quite exciting to discover. It’s fairly common in new/young layers who’s systems are prone to these glitches. :)

Yep....or an immature yolk.
IME it's more common with older birds going out or coming back into lay,
but can happen at any time.

I get them a lot more when my girls are finishing their molt.
