MICROCHIPPING experiences. Where do you insert?

Nor do I see it as being a logical means of managing a breeding flock, when a wing or leg band provided instant recognition without having to have a device to read the chip on the bird.

I suppose that if a large operation had the chip reader linked to a record keeping computer program so they could keep records in breeding pens, it might make sense. Otherwise, not practical. Hatcheries don't even get that sophisticated.

Even in a large scale breeding operation I don’t see the point over banding, tagging, or even tattooing (which is still a lot of effort, and I’ve never seen done on a bird). As for theft of chickens, it wouldn’t help at all. Even if the chicken escaped the thief and was picked up by a kind hearted samaritan, literally no one would think to scan a chicken for a microchip.

If one was hell bent on it and could obtain the chips and scanners for cheap, I’d imagine the breast would be a fine place to implant.
