Hello! I am considering starting meat chickens. Is there a recommended processor in Middle TN? I am south of Franklin, if that helps.

Anyone else have them? Where do you get your stock?

Thanks!

It is often very difficult to find a processor for chickens. Most of us end up either finding another farmer who is willing to process the chickens for you and/or teach you how to do it yourself. I have yet to find one in North Alabama so we learned how to process. It is not my favorite job but it is worth it to me to know that the chickens had a good natural life. I also know what is in the food that I bring to my families table. Their are a lot of resources here at BYC to help get you started and support you through the emotional aspect of it.

BYC is awesome that way,

By TN state law, chickens to be marketed for human consumption must be processed at a USDA certified processing plant. There is only one in the state that I know of, Niko and Company in Walling, TN, about 20 miles south of Cookeville (www.nikoandcompany.com). Good luck. I admire you for wanting to contribute to the sustainable food movement.

Does anyone know where i can get bulk chicken for pet comsumption. I am especially looking for bulk chick and turkey necks. Thanks.
