Does anyone know what a cross of these would look like? And would it be possible to keep 1 narraganseett tom over 2 midget white hens without him hurting them? The F1 generation that these produce, would be the breeding stock I would keep. I'm interested in this cross because I want a miniature breed of turkey but not a white one. And the reason for using a narrangansett tom with midget white hens, and not the other way around, is the narragansett toms look much nicer strutting than a pasty midge white tom which imho kind of look like ET after he ran away and they found him in that culvert...

go with a 6 month or 8 month tom (jake) they are lighter , not some old heavy weight! I sell the big boys and keep the skinny ones!!! tom!!

I just got day olds today so that will be my base but I won't have crosses til next year because they won't breed til them, right? So the tom might be pretty big.

that will be just right first year birds are lean, thats what breeders want! well I do and I'am a breeding farm! I grow my breeders slow once they leave the brooder and hit the ground, I feed them light about 1/2 to 1 cup of feed per bird and not some high protine stuff, a good ole 12/16 percent feed, slow grow with grass and bugs, thats how I grow egg machines tom!!

The Narragansett gene is sex linked, so if you breed a Narr tom to bronze hens you'll get bronze toms and Narr. hens as offspring. The young jakes from this mating would carry the Narr. gene but outwardly appear normal bronze. I'm not sure what would result with white Midgets. The white may be recessive and breeding them to a bird of Narr. color might result in all Narr. I've stayed away from the white breeds other than Royal Palm. Anyone else breed white birds to other varieties?

I had no idea bout the sex linkage but I would still like to hear what a cross would look like. Even with other breeds and the size of hte offspring. I imagine the size of f1s would vary

I have 7 poults that are about 6 weeks old that are a cross between Bourbon Red toms and Midget White hens. Most of the poults look like washed out BRs, two are somewhat darker. It'll be interesting to see how they feather out once they're older. We processed our extra turks and now have the breeders separated into their own coops/pens so that future poults will not be mixed. Regardless of what the 7 poults look like, we're looking forward to some great dinners in several months
