I paid 15.00 each for four month olds a couple of months ago, I LOVE THESE TURKEYS

they are sweet, chatty and hopefully as good eating as they are rated!

I recently sold four 12 week old Midget Whites for $15.00 each. I will never sell them that cheap again. That is giving them away. If they have to be sold at that price, it's better just to hatch what I need to eat and sustain my flock.

12 week olds even for $20 would not be breaking even with my local feed costs. I am certainly not raising turkeys for the profit but would rather sell them as hatchlings or put them in the freezer rather than give them away.

Nope, I fully agree there, they are bottomless pits when IT comes to feeding. I always sell mine either as eggs or day olds, just cost to much to raise them for some one.

Last night I sold a not quite five month old tom for $40, felt okay about it. I'm going this evening to look at a bourbon red tom from Sandhill stock for $40, so to me it is a deal, if I find out what I want, to trade a MW for a BR...

The buyer came off a craigslist ad asking $100/pair, or $50 for a tom. When I got them out to the front, next to the BR tom, he looked so scrawny I immediately knocked off $10 and the buyer was very happy. I let him choose from three toms and he chose the biggest MW and was happy as could be.

I ended up with Clara as the feed store was giving them away! Best freebie I have ever gotten! Would LOVE to find a Tom for our Clara, I could move alot of those babies! (providing I can part with them!) Our Clara has become a member of the family....they are great pets!

Found a midget Tom! He loves Clara, follows her ALL THE TIME going PSST, PSSST! I thought she was ignoring him but tonight she stayed in a nesting box when she usually runs to me when I get home from work, she would answer me but would not leave and was sitting on two chicken eggs. I took them and she was NOT happy with me. I am wondering if there has not been some "turkey business" while I am at work and she could be preparing? Is there any thing that will tip me off? She has been laying me an egg a day for months now and nothing for the last two days. Tom has been with us a week now. Any thoughts??? I would just love to have a bunch of Clara-ettes! She is such a fantastic bird, such a pet and she LOVES her people. She is such a friendly bird, I have people waiting for her babies! She runs to me and hops right up in my lap, tucks her head as I pet her and goes right to sleep....can you tell I have gone completely stupid over this bird??

Thinking if she is going to lay and hatch eggs, should I move her out of the chicken house and into a quiet shed with another box?
