anyone here have them now or in the past? What did you think of them over all? Good to eat? Ornery? Calm? Hens set and hatch their own egs? Any opinions very welcome and appre:cafciated...

I have them and I really like them. They are very gentle and friendly and are very good eating. The only problem is they are so freindly it's hard to butcher them when the time comes. Of course, I have the same problem with pigs so I may be a little soft hearted. They also make very good mothers and do a very good job raising their young. You will get a lot of debate as whether to brood the young or let the hen do it. I prefer letting the hen do it because of the mess in the brooder and I have had very good success letting the hens raise their young. I highley recommend them.

I love my MW's they are so sweet and great guard dogs. They alert me as to the activities going on around the yard and they are good with our kids also. They are supposed to be the best tasting in a blind taste test of birds (google that information, as I have never eaten one yet) They will set their own eggs and raise there own also. They are a great bird for year round as they do not get HUGE!

*forgot to mention that because of their smaller stature they are great flyers and we have to clip their wings.

thanks you guys...'preciate the info...they are very pretty...love the picture...I have ten on order and was having second thoughts about them...think I will leave things as is and take them on...years ago I had the huge white turkeys and they were a nightmare...waaay too big and I had way too many...I swore I would never do THAT again, but the smaller ones seem more managable and healthier...the big ones got so big they were breaking down...

I forgot to mention, mine find rattle snakes and alert me to them. They circle around them and make this really strange sound that I can recognize as something they don't like. Rattle snakes bite my dogs. So to me, they're worth having for that reason alone. If you're into poultry, definitely get some. They're mellow and get along well with the chickens. To me they're just really nice birds.

100% in agreement Ziggywiggy, I

these turkey, do I dare say more than my chickens

They make very distinct noises that tell me what's going on from hawks to coyotes.

LOVE LOVE LOVE mine. Have not eaten any yet, but want to every day! They have a surprisingly meaty breast for how small they are and are VERY gentle. I don't make pets of mine, so I could easily eat one if I had one to spare. I can't wait for them to begin to lay, because I want spares!!! LOL The are absolutely beautiful! Great birds. I did raise them with my chickens, but at turkey puberty one of my young roos lost an eye somehow. I took the turkeys out and made them their own pen after that. You know what they say, "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye..."
